Something is going on in the music industry. This isn't just some gimmick for nostalgic people, they are somehow creating something new and better by going back...

I still own two three head decks, a Sony and a Nakamichi and I never stopped collection high-end cassettes, type II and type iv. This will be a welcome release.

Great news! Did the bird also chime some technical specs, like quartz locked, dual capstan, direct drive and three head?

I think the new ones should be one step further than Philips DCC if you want to attract new customers.
Furthermore it should be able to record and play digital and analog.
Noise reduction from Dolby isn't available anymore so there should be a new type of noise reduction. I would go the digital signal processing path because of its huge amount of possibilities of nowadays processors.

Just my opinion as electronics engineer

Call me a cynic, but considering Mulann's track record with hardware (Remember Mystik?), I don't expect anything that exceeds the quality of the very mediocre Tascam 202, which basically is two Tanashin mechanisms wrapped in a tascam shell. Unless Mulann/RTM actually develop a new mechanism (which I doubt at this point), a new tapehead design, while it would be a good thing, won't be able to fix the currently available Tanashin mechanism's issues.
What makes me so sceptical is the Mystik Portable Cassette Player disaster. It was basically a standard chinese low-end portable design repackaged in a fancy case, but three times as expensive. That's probably why it failed the kickstarter, and the RTM and Mulann people were very aggressive towards critics, which probably didn't help. So for now, I really hope they learned from their mistakes, but at this point in time I expect more of the same. I'll be happy to be positively surprised.

Although I welcome news like that, I would also like to point out that there are so many great decks in existence. I'd rather see a better spare part supply for all the amazing machines we already have - namely magnetic heads, quality motors and pinch rollers. VFDs would also be greatly appreciated.

Japan companies are still quiet. They should start again for tapes and decks.

This makes me very happy. I have been trying to find a reasonably priced cassette deck for a while now. Hoping these aren't crazy expensive. Thanks for the heads up. BTW, I tried one of the HDMI to IIS box you rec'd but it didn't work with my DAC [Topping D70s]. Oh well. Cheers from USA!
