Finis Jhung Ballet Technique: Spotting

Показать описание
At the FINISFRIDAY PROMENADE & PIROUETTE, my adult babies learn to spot using the method shown in "BillyElliot:The Musical"
As the teacher in the show says, your head is the last to leave and the first to arrive.
Beginners spot their eyes in the mirror. They are seeing how the head is isolated and that indeed when they spot, the body follows the head. The head turns the body.
This is a major problem for many dancers - they spin their bodies and the head lags - which lessens the brilliance of the movement.
In our day, we were taught you can't spot fast enough. In fact, just today (December 6, I posted a clip of my double tours in "Zealous Variations" which I performed with the Harkness Ballet in 1967. Helgi Tomasson is also in this clip and notice how fast we both spot out double tours.
Erik Bruhn was our mentor, and he has the fastest turns one earth at that time. Magic!
Once beginners learn to keep their balance and have the power of the spot, they will progress to chaînés, pirouettes from fifth, and pirouettes from fourth.
Study this in my instructional video THE BOY BALLET DANCER featuring Joseph Harrington who was Broadway's youngest Billy. Lots of good tips on developing strength for grand pirouettes and fouettés. DVD or stream it from FINISJHUNG.COM
