Patient intake can be better for the patient and a lot easier and efficient for the hospital staff. The provisioning and de-provisioning of healthcare organization staff should also be easier and more secure.

This week at HIMSS14, we are presenting these two scenarios:

An individual walks into the ER, and approaches the registration desk. Instead of standing at the desk, the patient is offered a seat while the receptionist walks over with their mobile device and enters the patient information. At that time, a picture is taken of the patient and used to print out an access card that he / she may use for the duration of their stay. This could be to access information on a computer or to check for status updates on their visit.
• The patient is called into triage where the nurse, with his/her own mobile device identifies the patient based on registration and enters his/her vitals.
• The attending physician approaches the patient some time later, with his mobile device, and has all of the information related to that case. He accesses information that pertains to the patient's condition from medical documents that he keeps on Google Apps, or O365. Once the doctor determines the issue, he is able to prescribe whatever resolution is needed.

In the 2nd Scenario an attending nurse or physician is registering as temporary or permanent staff at the hospital. The enrollment process is completed on a mobile device, and a picture is taken and badge printed out for immediate access to the hospital system based on the role of the individual. That badge is tied to the credentials that were entered at the time of enrollment. Accessing of computers and physical locations is done without the need for "logging in" or entering passwords. Once the individual leaves the hospital, the badge can be decommissioned.
• Applications on the device are presented to that individual based on their role (Doctor, nurse, employee etc.)
