Sudetenland mein Heimatland [Unofficial anthem of Sudetenland][+ English translation]

The Sudetenland, Czech and Slovak: Sudety; Polish: Kraj Sudecki) is the historical German name for the northern, southern, and western areas of former Czechoslovakia which were inhabited primarily by Sudeten Germans. These German speakers had predominated in the border districts of Bohemia, Moravia, and Austrian Silesia from the time of the Austrian Empire.

The word "Sudetenland" did not come into existence until the early 20th century and did not come to prominence until after the First World War, when the German-dominated Austria-Hungary was dismembered and the Sudeten Germans found themselves living in the new country of Czechoslovakia. The Sudeten crisis of 1938 was provoked by the Pan-Germanist demands of Germany that the Sudetenland be annexed to Germany, which happened after the later Munich Agreement. When Czechoslovakia was reconstituted after the Second World War, the Sudeten Germans were expelled or killed and the region today is inhabited almost exclusively by Czech speakers.

This song is not meant to offend any Czechs, but also the expelled Germans deserve to love their former homeland. I hope we can be friends this century :)

Thank you for sharing! My grandmother and family were ethnic Germans expelled from Gottschee in Slovenia. They fled to Austria when the war was lost. Although many Gottscheer were relocated to Germany during the war, those who fled later either remained in Austria or resettled in New York. Now it's just a sad memory.

I am Czech person and I sometimes regret it ended like that. Just yesterday I was in Saaz (Žatec) and admired sudeten german architecture of city centre (many buildings were destroyed by Roma people but now it is mostly repaired). There are still some german signs on the walls of lot of old buldings. I think it would be way better not only for Sudetenland region but for the whole country if most of the Germans could stayed after WW2. Now after more than 70 years most of the former regions of Sudetenland are still the worst in the meaning of poverty, criminality, relationship, lack of traditions and other factors. Uprooting is still evident.

As a Czech, I wish Germans and Czechs could have lived together in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia as brothers.

The home of my grandpa. He always says that you can only have one true home and that his home will always be there, no matter where he lives or who he is with. He later married my grandma who is Czech, but later they got a divorce and my grandpa fled to Germany from communist Czechoslovakia to be with his family who was already here.
I recently cleared out my grand uncles apartment because he moved to a better home, and he was also subscribed to a monthly newspaper for the Sudeten Germans, there were some really nice things in there.

My Oma comes from the Sudetenland, told us kids about how beautiful it was, full of culture. Unfortunately she and her family where forced to leave at gun point by the Russians and forced to march to West Germany. Still to this day she says the Sudetenland is her real home.

what a terrible fate for the sudeten germans. not that it is the only time something like this happened to germans. same things happened after ww2 in former german eastern territories (like prussia, silesia, katowitz, memel, etc etc).

My Great Grandfather was from the Sudetenland. He was conscripted into the Heer and fought in WW2. When he came home, he was not welcome in his own country and he was forced to flee to Germany.
The rest of his family were brutally expulsed from their homes and forced to flee.

My Great Grandfather never visited their hometown Gastorf (Hoštka) ever again as he did not want to destroy his childhood memories. I have been in Hoštka myself 5 years ago and the town was very run down and it felt like time had froze. There were still buildings which were destroyed with German writing and such.

Over 14 million Germans were expulsed from their homes after WW2 and 500 000-3 million people died. Many had lived there for hundreds of years. This is a crime that is sadly forgotten, war is hell.

My grandmother, who was a Volhynian Czech from Ukraine, told me about her family when they were resettled into the Czechlands and into a soon-to-be vacated German home. The German family was really kind to them and even made them food. She remembers how they couldn't stop crying since they and all other German families were being evicted from their family homes, which were passed down from generations. There is even a plaque of when the home was last renovated, sometime in the 1800s. So, likely it is hundreds of years older. It is a sad time in history and I feel bad for all of the families that suffered emotionally. I hope that German family and their descendants are living a happy and healthy life.

*CZECH TRANSLATION:*
-

The striking strikers look strikingly strikelike today... Be careful, hopefully hate tube won't misinterpret this. This is a gem though! Great find! I really enjoy listening to this and have you to thank for it! ^_^

I live in Sudetenland. Where someone asks, where am I from, I always reply : I am from Sudetenland. And I am Czech person, not German. I feel, that this land (around our state border) do not belong to Czechs and I respect it, maybe I am the only one who feels it that way. I have a lots of friends from Kravaře ( formerly Deutsch Krawarn) - a close town near mine. Lot of people have german citizenship and I am glad for them.
We have a holy mass together (today´s inhabitants - Czechs/Silesians and former inhabitants- Germans ) every year. And it´s held in latin :) so nobody actualy understands :D but we feel the connection and that is important.

Love from the Czech Republic. I am a convinced Czechoslovakist, by which I mean the original idea of Professor Masaryk. The expulsion of the Germans was a disaster, I wish that one day all our brothers could come back home.
