Bay Area high school seniors dealing with changes to college application process

Just go the community college route. No need to stress about SAT scores or GPA. See if college is really a fit for you. After completing your general education units in two years, then transfer to a university. saves you a lot of money too.

For Asians and Indians who were considered over represented, the abolishing of affirmative action is a sigh of relief. Asian and Indian students mostly tend to be children of H1B immigrants which means their parents have college degrees. Even though they struggle a lot due to having to adapt to 2 cultures - one at home and one outside; they are considered privileged not being first generation college student.
On top of that when they get good grades, they dont get credit for it. When they score well on the SAT the colleges stop using SAT and want to know extracurriculars. Indian/Asian parents focus on studies not extracurriculars so these students get the shaft both ways.
At least with affirmative action off the table they can compete on grades. They will never have the connections that the native born have in the community. They cant get hundreds of hours of community service from their church because the pastor knew their dad as a kid. Grades are all they have.

How is getting rid of affirmative action a bad thing? If the kids have the grades to get in they will get in….simple as that.

race doesn't matter, class does. a poor chinese or white person who are above average in school deserve to be looked at in an elite manner. whereas as an indian student from a rich family who is above average, should be looked at in an above average manner.

I’m confused why rejection of affirmative action is a bad thing. It gives all students a fair chance to apply by merit. Low resources is not a good reason. It means her school district, school, and maybe even family did not do their part to help these kids to meet or exceed the standard required for each school. Instead of trying to be victim or blaming someone else, can’t you guys just tell us what each student can do to help them get there. Something that they have control over. I’m tired of hearing these divides from the media and people but not hearing what or where to get resources or help. That’s just lazy journalism.

It's funny that they showed an Asian kid sitting there, when this is a political hit piece that has nothing to do with affirmative action or the children. When that poor Asian kid was sitting there I was thinking to myself, as someone going to tell this kid that ending affirmative action actually benefits him and equals the playing field for him? What kind of journalist allows a child to be used and abused this way? So embarrassing for him and his family. Once again the media finds a way to exploit poor people and in this case a poor Asian child! Well, it's kind of proven now how racist liberals are and their anti-Semitism so it's not surprising!
