These men gave up the most precious thing they had … in an attempt to secure the freeedom of their brothers and sisters still in bondage. They overcame adversity not through destruction, but through sheer bravery and courage. The men of the 54th are a shining example of what men should be like … black, red or white or yellow … all men bleed red .

One of the last of the movies where the actors actually ACTED. They performed. They expressed emotions that we the viewers could feel. They didn't stand in front to the camera and just talk their lines.

Poor Shaw. He was cursed with the knowledge of knowing that most of his regiment was going to die, and he still had to lead them as though they were going to be victorious.

Glory, The Last of the Mohegans, The Last Samauri, Band of Brothers, and Risen. My favorites. I actually got choaked up watching this scene and the one where Gould announces the Confederates would kill any black soldier captured and any white officers serving with them and the next day none had left. Attacking across an open field like this against rifled muskets was suicidal.. But both sides did it again and again.

It's tragic that the same prejudices that black soldiers endured 160 years ago are still present to this day. They're simply directed at a different minority.
