A point I should have made in the video. You can't claim the United States won the space race by saying that after everything had already been done, the US started to make more progress, particularly after the Cold War (and therefore the space race) had ended. The space race wasn't an actual race with a finish line. It was called the "space race" because it rhymed, my dudes. If the English word for "space" rhymed with "contest" it would be called that instead. There was no finish line, only a series of achievements.

Cowboy Bezos is fully committed to his comic book villain imagine now. He's just laughing about how absolutely greedy and disgusting he is.
Can't we just leave him and the other megalomaniac billionaires in space?

If I'm not mistaken space is still winning

i find it so funny that “space communism” was this term for red scare fearmongering about soviets dominating the world from the sky but today mostly people use it to jokingly refer to star trek

I am SO GLAD that you talked about this!!! As someone with a physics degree & currently pursuing an aerospace masters, in ALL my academic years Ive only ever had TWO educators talk about the USSR's achievements - my astronomy teacher in High School & my modern physics professor in undergrad.

None of my history educators _ever_ discussed the space race in any capacity beyond "they launched sputnik and we retaliated by going to the moon" like??? I think you missed a couple steps there, pal 😂

Most people have only heard of Armstrong’s “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” but to me, it was Yuri Gagarin’s improvised “Poyekhali!” (Let’s go!) before launch that truly embodied the spirit of humanity - exploration, adventurism and scientific progress.

Not some pretentious or philosophical quote, just a simple “yeah let’s do this!” kind of excitement that can stir something up within any human being and motivate them to go out there to explore, invent and venture into the unknown.

I realize that I've never actually heard Bezos' voice until now, and thanks, I hate it.

And I think it's worth pointing out that by the standards of both Conservatives and Liberals in America, the US Space Program was very much a Socialist one, seeing as it was a collective endeavour fueled by public money and public institutions, even if they also used private companies in the process.

As a space scientist, and knowing some former Soviet scientists personally, say whatever else about the Soviet Union; the quality of their science was solid and worthy of respect. (Thanks Andrei Kolmogorov and Max Steenbeck for your legacy! 🙃)

The Soviets landing probes on Venus many years before something like the Mars Rover definitely makes them a better contender for the winner

"Space Communism" sounds like a War of the Worlds fanfic written by Joe McCarthy

"The Space Race wasn't about science, it was about propaganda" is a conversation I wasn't ready to have.

I know that this is a fantasy, but wouldn't it be beautiful if every single Amazon worker would quit on the very same day ?

Ha... I just googled "the far side of the moon" and of course one of the results I clicked on said the Apollo missions were responsible for us knowing what the far side looks like. No mention of Soviet anything.

"Capitalism sent Jeff Bezos into space today, not socialism"
Yes, that's the problem

My hot take had always been that the space race ended in 1957 (Sputnik) or maybe 1961 (Gagarin) and every milestone since has just been the US moving the goalposts.

I never noticed just how sweaty the men sitting behind JFK were until now.

A correction, Experts do not say terraforming is impossible. It is very very possible, just incredibly time consuming. It wouldn't ever get done in a reasonable human time frame but could still be done. Not that i agree with what Elongated Muskrat is doing
