The cope is strong with this one. Zero build only came along because build mode became so unfun that even pro players were like "this shit is old boring and not the vibe". Then zero build burst onto the scene, and combined with fortnites new movement system, new map layouts, players realized that building was no longer needed. It was no longer the only game in town and proceeded to outperform build. To this day it still frequently reaches higher play rate. Which mode is more competitive is irrelevant, because zero build was and still is simply more fun, and fortnite straight up made the right choice to not go the Apex Legends route of treating the game as if it needed to be competitive first...it needs to be FUN first if it wants to survive. You know, a FUN game?

I’d rather have someone running and fighting for their life than for them to build a house ten stories high

They're both shooters, they're both competitive. Yes newer players typically stick to zero build, but high ranked zero build players are insane. It's a shooter just like any other.

Reason I play zb is because I don’t want to shoot someone and they build a 40 story building

I can literally load up a build game and still dominate without building. People do it all the time just because you don’t want to play build doesn’t mean you’re bad.

"Im insecure about being called bad so im gonna call anyone who plays a mode im bad at bad at the game."

For the record, I don't even play zero build so stop trying to use that as a point

And they really say ZB is harder when 99% of a builds player’s playtime is spent in creative. It’s so hard it’s unplayable unless you devote a huge amount of time to learn.

zero build is more tactical
builds is more mechanical
both are fine

0 builds is lowkey fun from time to time but you really see the casuals who can’t even aim or play tho 💀

I think that zero is a good addition to bring back the community and for casuals to get away from sweat who do edit courses and clip them, but I don’t get it why ppl say zb takes more skill than builds, editing is a pretty hard mechanic to learn in builds, and is important for box fighting and piece controls but all u have to do is master movement and aim in zb, thats it! If a zb tourney player played a builds tourney player they would get cooked

I wouldn't say that zero Build or regular build requires "more" skill for either... with zero build, its generally easier to get kills just as its easy to get killed as well... which requires a higher level of situational awareness and at times forces you to be more tactical than you want to be considering how easy it is to get third-party... with build its easier to get out of the situations when you can build a damn Tower of Giza and heal up if your not going against a sweat (granted)... with build, it does require a bigger skill set that is for sure but after learning it at the level of an average player, there are advantages and disadvantages opposed to zero build... people commonly associate zero build would it be easier and less skilled is because the truth is newer folks time to start off in zero build and when Bots are involved, it's definitely easier than regular build... however if you do your best to compare apples to apples, take people of the same skill set and put them against each other in both build and zero build, it would be equally as challenging as they have to adapt differently depending on various situations. However if you pit the type of players that normally play Zero build against those who play build, regular build players would most likely always wins because they have alot more OG players in those lobbies who are more experienced where is zero build player lobbies tend to have a lot more kids and startups

builds requires addition skill, anither thing you have to learn which is building.
0 builds requires good aim and map awareness, a lot of it. you cant just be out in the open and expect to not bet beamed by snipers. builds requires map. awareness too, but much less.
in short: builds has more mechanics, requires more skill.
0 builds: has no additional mechanic to master, but makes other mechanics much more important to master like map awareness and aiming etc.

The thing is zero build isn’t really meant for competitive apart from the tournaments. It’s more for people who don’t want to lose every game to sweats in their lobby and to just have fun.

I do play Build but saying that the game has been out for a long time, so you should be good at it is not a sound argument. It's like saying the Earth has been around for a long time so the minute a baby is born, they should be able to walk, talk and read well.

As a build player this is wrong they are both super difficult tbh

Zero build is more skill due to awareness, while builds is more eye coordination, but have you ever thought that builds is more toxic?😊

Here are a few reasons why Zero Build could be considered harder (and better):

1. No second chances—positioning is everything.
In regular Fortnite, if you get caught out in the open, you can crank a 5-star hotel and save yourself. In Zero Build? You’re just done if you’re out of position. You have to play smarter, not just sweatier.

2. Aim actually matters.
There’s no hiding behind 12 layers of turbo-built walls. If someone peeks, it’s a real duel. Good aim and fast reaction time make a huge difference, especially in long-range fights.

3. Movement skills = clutch factor.
Dodging, sliding, mantling—movement becomes your only defense. It’s not just about being cracked at building, it’s about using the map, height, and cover like a real FPS game.

4. Every fight is high stakes.
There’s no tunneling to safety or boxing up and healing. If someone pushes you, you’ve gotta win or dip fast. The pressure makes it feel more intense and satisfying when you get a dub.

5. More pure gun skill, less edit play.
In Build mode, someone might out-edit you and it’s over. In Zero Build, nobody’s boxing you like a fish—you live and die by your gunplay and decision-making. Oh and Cranking 90s doesn’t make you cracked—try surviving without your little Lego towers first.
