Have you heard of The Spoon theory? Or have you wondered What is the Spoon theory?

Do we all have the same 24 hours in a day...

Christine Miserandino uses the spoon theory to explain how someone with a chronic disease becomes more fatigued by certain tasks than those without.

🍽️ The main principles of the theory include starting with a certain amount of spoons at the start of your day, but each task takes away more and more spoons until you're left with nothing.

Even if you don't have a chronic illness, you can apply this theory to your own life 🫵

If you have more responsibilities than the next person, then you'll already know you need to be more diligent with how you spend your time & energy ⏰

This a common problem that many of our Body Smart clients face. They don't have many spoons left each week 📆

📉 If weight loss is the goal you're looking to achieve, having a resilient plan in place is what will allow you to keep moving forward even with minimum spoons.

☝️ Where most people go wrong is managing their own expectations around how 'fast' they should see results.

💨 After all, fast is relative.

For an example let’s say a 25-year-old had chronic illness and let’s say we take teaspoons away for showering and paying the bills. then it’s one spoon for medication and four spoons for house cleaning etc. I’m saying this because this was based around helping people with chronic illnesses because if you take a 25 year-old who does not have any health problems should have enough energy where they have lots of spoons, even though they may have kids and her husband, etc. I’m not saying that they Never run out of energy because they probably do but I just wanted to emphasise that this is the case for people with chronic illness and that’s why it was developed for.

I love this! I had to learn this lesson the hard way last year.

I am 29 with 4 kids. Last year I worked two part time jobs, was doing online school and I signed up with a personal training. I was so scattered, I was doing a poor job in every aspect in my life. I also gained weight. I got in a car accident and cause a back injuring, so I had to quite working. Now I focus on my kids more and I am going to like my husband work this year so I can finish my school and lose the weight.

Spoon Theory is a metaphor first coined by Christine Miserandino to illustrate the energy limitations that can result from living with a chronic illness. You should not misappropriate it for other contexts.
