India will allot spectrum for satellite broadband administratively and not via auction, communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia clarified on Tuesday. This development came amid suggestions from India’s two largest Telcos for bids to be held on spectrum rights. Satellite services in India are set to grow 36% a year to reach $1.9 billion by 2030, according to estimates. But why is satellite spectrum so important for key players?

Allocation is literally corruption. No transparency as to why one company gets allocated while others don't. Auction is literally whoever pays more gets the spectrum, more money for the country too. A company can easily bribe ministers and get allocated the spectrum. I don't know what problem they are having in doing an auction?

Jio Airtel have no satellites right now to give internet(Airtle is using oneweb and Jio is using SES) whereas starlink already has satellites orbiting earth and that is the reason why they want auctions because they are afraid starlink will take customers with superior performance.

For a population of 140 crores, there should be more than 10 Telecom companies.
Airtel & JIO are Duopoly, Not good for People.

Himalayan States are suffering miserably bcoz of radical Govt stance. Kupwara in J&k to kibithoo in Arunachal, very poor services- lack of infra + isolated Youth is suffering from Mental distress further, which could have eased down if they had internet. A chapri in these towns can't even become a content creator.

The Govt. is right on this issue and understands that India needs to grow and man up to the World instead of looking for protection for their businessmen all the time !

I am happy.

I don't even agree with the system of Acution even for normal Ground AirWaves Spectrum.

Sab kuch direct Administrative allocation karna chahiye,
With very low fee.

Because eventually the acution cost will be passed to you.

The most easy solution is government itself provides satellite network through public company with 45 % government ownership and 55 % public ownership.

Good decision by GOI. tight slap on the face of Jio and Airtel. They want duopoly and keep increasing the rates.

I do not want Elon cutting my internet connection on his reasoning or him having power to broadcast X to the people of India if the government of India deems it unfit for Indian well being. If we have the capability kindly support Indian tech. Simple.
