I own DXO, Nik software, Affinity and Luminar and use them for different reasons. Gave up on Adobe products three years ago. DXO is my main raw processor, Affinity for manipulation/cleanup and Luminar for batch editing.

*PHENOMENAL VIDEO* I love how you get in detail and even theory about "Finding what works for you and what you're looking for". That gave me all the clarity I needed. ty.

great video 👍🏾🙏🏾

I use Affinity Photo, Luminar AI and Neo, ON1 RAW. All of them do something really well that the others can't, which is why I use still use all four programs. I agree totally with your breakdown of what each app excels at.

Please do a new video for the new 2023 editors. The new version of ON1 Raw is blowing me away this year with it's Smart Select Masking!

Finally I bought the Nik Collection for a special price. It comes with DXO Photolab Essential and the upgrade to Elite was for only 75 EUR. That was the point for me to buy it as second option to Affinity Photo. Some of the features of Photolab are really helpful and I see it really as a good addtion to Affinity Photo.

Olivio, could you record a series in relation to this film in which, by working in each of these programs, you show what is best suited to? At the same time showing its strongest and weakest points? You know, I don't want to buy each of these programs to find out which one is right for me. Your opinion is important to me.

Great contribution, dear Olivio! It's like that: Certain goal need certain modules. Most of the time, I'm happy with Affinity and the old "free" Nik collection. Serif is also very good with free tutorials, I'm appreciating that. Now waiting for Affinity 2.0 maybe in combination with Nik 5. I'm using Luminar AI just for portraits/skin adjustments, here it does a qucik and easy good job if you don't overdo it. And since some days ON1 RAW, as it can handle the raw files of my new Olympus OM-1 (while Affinity still can't read these RAW files, unfortunately). I like the denoising tool of ON1 RAW.

I like your approach to this comparative review - a different but very useful video - thanks.

I am considering changing "Affinity Photo" because even though it is a paid program, it has very rare updates. after 1 year of watching your movies, i learned a lot, but also got to know the limitations of this program.

I bought Affinity for my first ever processing software a couple of years ago. I'm not going to get into a long dissertation on why but Affinity blows. Let's just say it has NEVER worked properly. The only reason I put up with it was I wasn't very serious at the time but things have changed. I even installed an SSD and increased the RAM with no effect. Recently, I started a thirty day trial with Capture One after watching a video review by one of my favorite landscape photographers and others as well. So much for it being for studio work. From day one it has worked flawlessly. As soon as the trial is over you can bet I'll be subscribing.

*AFFiNiTY is the way to go whereas Software is concerned.* *Yes it doesn’t have certain features that we would like but that comes at a cost and considering AFFiNiTY is the most reasonable price software product on the market it’s pretty damn good, right?.* *Hopefully over time they will add more features that we need to make our workflow much easier and simpler :)*

Still use free Nix in AP, Topaz denoiser as plugins which is very handy. Even use Neo as a plug-in for sky replacement and some of new AI just experimentally...

I am a little surprised you didn't have ON1 or Topaz Labs in your list. I have tried most of the software listed and bounce back and forth depending upon what I am trying to do between Affinity and ON1 mostly. Sometimes Topaz Labs and Luminar AI. Luminar is easy to use, but I don't feel the export is as good as some of the others. I do like the sharpening and denoise from Topaz Labs the best.

I am far more interested in photo restoration and some retouch. While I used the older version of PS way back, I opted to start using Affinity since most of the same tools are available. With Affinity Photo I expanded to use Topaz products along with just a little bit of Luminar Neo. Based on what I see these days, it seems that Photoshop has started to include some powerful AI tools which may serve well for photo restoration and edits along with a 'fair' bw to colour option. What do you think are the best tools to acquire for photo restoration as the main focus?

Hello!

I would like a software that allows me to:

If I start with a World Map. I want to be able to select only the outlines that make up the continents (not draw them manually) and then cut it out and insert into a new sheet for further editing.

Samsungs camera app has a feature that allows you to select people in photographs, cut them out and paste wherever you want. This is my minimal requirement. Maybe this kind of feature is standard in all editing softwares?

Kind regards,
Astrocyte

If you think that Capture One Pro is mostly built for studio photography you should take a look at Paul Reiffer‘s YT channel. Capture One Pro & Affinity Photo is a great combo.

I startet to look your videos from beginning 2018 because I'm new to Affinity products. I bougth the bundle.
I use Capture One pro for the last 4 years not for Studio due to the fact I am a hobby photograph most on landscape, free nature, animals, insects, macros and so on.
Its not only to develop a photo it is to make it your own composition and it will end as an image on the wall. Therefore I bought an Epson SC-P900 for printing up to A2+ on different papers.
Now I want to give images/pictures a new expression and therefore I want to learn more about Affinity.

It would be useful to know to which extend the single software has build in compatibility - e.g. Affinity relative to Photoshop. If a PS user with a lot of images made in PS considers to give Affinity a chance, will he have to re-edit his master images .psd or .tiff - each time he wants to change something - or is there a slick way to convert.

Olivio, I've watched many of your tutorials and learned a whole lot from them. I think you missed the most crucial element in determining which type of photographers\editors a company is after. The first thing I look at, and to me is the most crucial criterion...how extensive the training resources and what is the quality of those resources. Personally, the marketing pictures have no influence on me at all. Resources, resources, resources! While I no longer use Adobe products, their training videos will meet the needs of beginners to advanced. While you stated that Capture One is geared toward studio photography, I think if you'd look at the extensive number of webinars ( by the way they are first-rate) you might change your opinion. Many of the webinars are geared to landscape photography, as well as how to color tone, whether it's a portrait, food, or landscape image. It's my opinion you should have stressed the importance of the resources and their quality. Thanks again for so many great tutorials.
