That “This is merely the (concept) image of this product” phrase is obligatory in Japan to prohibit misleading advertising. That’s why you see that phrase on a lot of product packaging.

This isn't just in Japan many SEA countries have it, here in Singapore it's called shaker fries & I could always ordered unsalted fries since the seasoning powder is salty enough

We have this in the Philippines, it's called Shake Shake fries but only two cheese and bbq flavors. It's a regular item. We have them for years now

I remember Burger King actually had this in the US like 20 years ago when I was a kid: "Shake Em Up Fries". They came with a cheesy flavor but they were so good! Agreed, they need to bring this idea over here (again)!

we had the exact same thing in australia but it was spicy seasoning called shaker fries, they were sold during a spicy fad that added a spicy varent of every item.

In India, theres a thing called "Peri Peri Fries"

Which is basically like spicy fries, u can also call it "Shake shake fries" because u need to shake it with the peri peri powder and the paper bag that u can shake it with.

Everyone here who has ever had shaker fries, the idea of putting a seasoning packet was first started in singapore with the OG flavour seaweed. It was proven so popular here in singapore that literally people just brought fries to eat with the seasoning. I still remember that it got so popular that there were moments during peak hours that the frier was at max capacity and still couldn't keep up with the demand for fries to the point they had so put the promo on hold.

To this day, everyone who has ever eaten shaker fries can literally thank singapore for our bloodlust for a seasoning packet on fries and being the Guinea pigs. It was so good that mcdonalds decided it was a good idea to bring it everywhere. The best part is that every few months in singapore there is always a new shaker fries flavour being released, and ngl, it's probably better than Japan.

This isn't just in Japan, many other Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. have them too

Hong Kong also has these! It's call Shake Shake in HK and it has two seasonings, Honey BBQ and Seaweed.
Sometimes there are limited seasonings too!

Burger King once served powdered cheese packets with their bags that were meant to be used with the bag in exactly this way. It's been like 15 years and I'm STILL MAD that they've never brought it back.

This is always here in Hong Kong but it's called "Shake Shake Fries" instead and there are regular flavours like barbeque or seaweed that are always present (that is unless they run out of stock) and they bring out new limited time flavours from time to time.
