Musica Universalis - full clip

Music and juggling act by Kulu Orr.
An 8:30 min act comprised of bounce juggling on a self-designed and self-built MIDI musical instrument, while operating two loop-stations with feet, building up layers of sound.

I am indebted to Florian Bomers for creating the program "Bome's MIDI translator" - I programmed the entire hardware-to-software MIDI interface using this excellent tool. Google it - it's great and even free for light users!
The looping and mixing are done both in hardware, using a DigiTech's JamMan-Solo pedal and several control pedals, as well as in software, using Ableton's fantastic Live DAW.

Amazing!! Astonishing!! The combination of simultaneous creativity and control in so many levels: Electronic (the devising of the whole complex of the original musical table where the sounds keep changing, and the many pedals, each responsible for the differing production of the sounds); Musical (the continuos changing beats combining melody and juggling, and the complex live musical creativity in so many levels); and, of course - the juggling (perfect control of the balls in such a beautiful and elegant performance, in both juggling and achieving complex harmonical beats). And all this is just the mere obvious surface!! In short - original and perfect. I love it.

מדהים, מדהים!! הצירוף של יצירתיות עם שליטה בריבוי תחומים בו-זמנית - אלקטרוניקה (בנייה וביצוע של כל המכלול המורכב גם בשולחן שהצלילים בו משתנים כל הזמן, וגם בפדלים שכל אחד מהם אחראי להפקה שונה של הצלילים), מוסיקליות (המקצבים המורכבים המשלבים מנגינה ולהטוטנות, והיצירתיות המוסיקלית המורכבת שנבנית תוך כדי ביצוע), להטוטנות (השליטה בכדורים בביצוע כל כך יפה ואלגנטי, גם בליהטוט וגם בהשגת המקצבים והמנגינה בכל כך הרבה שכבות). וזה רק אפס קצהו!!

Really good! I would suggest, for next time, either making sure the camera is level or fixing the angle during the edit.

For people asking me about the hardware and software I use -
For the MIDI protocols, handling the triggering of the sounds by the balls, I use the excellent BOME's MIDI Translator Pro (I think Florian, who created the software, posted a comment here with the link).
The loops are recorded both in hardware (with a Digitech JamMan Solo pedal connected to various footswitches controling it) as well as into a laptop running Ableton Live 9.0, which also does the mapping of the MIDI signals into virtual instruments on-the-fly and the sound mixing.
