The US won’t pay for ransoms but they will hand over a suitcase full of cash to some warlord in Afghanistan.

Very stressful job. I wonder what percentage of kidnapper parasites get punished?

We absolutely pay ransoms all the time but front that we don't do it. If it's a VIP or someone connected to someone important, the government absolutely pays up under the radar, but everyone else is told to kick rocks and that "we don't negotiate" which is bogus.

I am Haitian. I have been kidnapped and exchanged for money. This negociator is spot on. I was 16. My parents were desperate and ready to pay whatever but they brought in my godfather, who negotiated down. There was no guarantee I'd be given back. No need to cripple the entire family. I had two other siblings to think of. My godfather still had his head on his shoulders while my parents were crippled with fear. That's why we chose him. I was held three days but thank God, they gave me back! It took us years to recover financially. And I don't think my Dad ever recovered mentally.

I’m glad when I get a moral issue like this that’s actually a toss up where reasonable minds can differ.

We dont pay ransoms but we WILL trade the most notorious arms dealer from the 90s for a basketball player, so funny how that works

So true… My brother stole my teddy bear once. I told him I would give my life savings of five dollars to get my teddy bear back. He took my five dollars and burned my teddy bear.

I doubt if the Constitution prohibits the payment for any goods or services, including random. That capability is not in the enumerated powers of government. And if that narrowly defined goods or service is not in a narrowly defined “illegal” activity, the ‘government’ is not a party to the agreement. It sounds silly but the job of the attorney is to dig through laws, facts, innuendo, lies and truths to make sense of these situations.

A less expensive alternative is probably a midnight run from the Philly airport through the piney woods to Thoms River New Jersey and back. 😎😩😎

As much as i admire the guy this is bs. The American government does pay ransom. Like a lot. They do it through proxies though. Never directly.

I've watched interviews with CIA and high ranking military officers o have said that the USA and Canada will pay for hostages. The rest of what he says sounds reasonable.
