Have you had to dissect a frog yet? Once you take a biology class, or a science lab class in school, sooner or later, you may just have to. And, while it might be a real learning experience, it's not pretty - not at all. And it's not for the faint of heart either!
Most kids don't look forward to it, in fact, outside of getting "the talk" - you know, in health class (or maybe in Biology) - the frog dissection is one of the most dreaded moments in academics for most students. It's gross, awkward and disgusting. Some classmates get anxiety just thinking about it. But not for our storyteller - ever since he was a little kid he's wanted to get his hands on a scalpel and dissect a frog, and in sixth grade, he got his wish.
The teacher split the class up into groups and each group would work on a single frog together. The only problem was, he is an introvert - that essentially means he would rather be on his own, doing his own thing, and working by himself than working with others on a team, and that kind of threw him off, and disappointed him. And, to make matters worse, one of the kids in his group was the biggest and meanest bully in the school - he terrorized everyone! Not only that, but he was picked to choose the frog they would dissect, and of course, he chose based totally on size - the biggest fattest bullfrog in the bunch - huge.
When it came time to start the dissection, unfortunately, he didn't get to do it - the job was given to a girl in his group. No scalpel or first incision for Nutro. Now, when you make the first cut down the belly of the frog you are supposed to get a good look at its organs - BUT - when they cut this frog open they couldn't see guts or any organs because its whole belly was filled with eggs. It was totally gross, just disgusting. Ew!
It was so disgusting that the girl across the table in the classroom suddenly turned pale, sheet white, and started looking a little dizzy and woozy. She looked nauseous, like she was going to throw up. The group asked her if she was okay, and then, she passed out, fainted! It was totally traumatic and they didn't know what to do - should they finish the dissection, stop, they were all a little freaked out.
The teacher had to get a wheelchair and wheel the poor girl with her nausea to the nurse, and the group never got to finish their dissection. It was a disaster, and the group didn't get credit for the class or the dissection. It was a disaster, a real train wreck, epic fail.
The only thing our storyteller learned was not to do a dissection with a queasy nauseous classmate!
If you've ever wondered how to dissect a frog, now you know how NOT to! Science!
