😂 "Enemy that direction." -"Yes, sir. Eliminating that direction."

I have the utmost respect and admiration for this generation. Listen to their stories while you can.

I can't believe "that general direction" is an actual military tactic.

There is a similar story about an incident in Vietnam.
A unit was pinned down in the jungle by both troops hiding on the ground troops and snipers. After about 40 minutes the unit leader tells his 3 machine gun crew to crawl and spread out in a 75 yard line and aim their guns into the trees and on his command fire in a cross over sweeping motion into the trees until he told them to stop. When the units were in place he gave the order and according to the soldier telling the story - "It rained snipers". When the Viet Kong troops in the bushes saw the carnage falling from above they immediately retreated.
When they got back to base and the story was retold to his superiors - the officer incharge was congratulated for his dynamic thinking - but, he soon brought reality into the debrief when he said - "Our radio had a bullet hole in it and i couldn't tell the rest of the unit - so i took a gamble and thank God it worked otherwise we'd all have been killed. I didn't know what else to do".

Overwhelming fire superiority is a great motivator.

My great grandfather talked about how one time there was an enemy machine gun nest when they performed this tactic. They started by throwing a rock yelling "grenade" then over 20 men stood up and emptied their mags. He said their squad leader was the best leader he has ever haf

Takes absolute nerves of steel to stand up in a trench being fired at by multiple MG42's. These men were brave beyond words.

One of my dads best friends was a lend man and sniper. He came home, his way of handling that job after getting home was smoking a cigarette one after another, he had the next one lite before he had the one he was puffing was done, sadly he died much, much to young, cancer !! My dad, spent 3 months in a VA hospital, I believe in Memphis, with what they called shell shock back then, for almost 2 months he didn't know himself, he didn't even his mother, who spent a whole month there with him ! He recovered, but the man that went to war NEVER came home, a completely changed man !!He past away a few years ago at 95 , God Bless him and all rest off them, SALUTE!!!
