I also bake & cook & miss those days of doing this for my late husband. This recipe takes me back to Oklahoma & the people now gone. Cooking for loved ones is truly a blessing.

And Calvin, thank you for being a wonderful gentleman that shows such precious appreciation for your wife. Again, we need more people like you two. My grandmother used to make this and its one of my all time favorite cakes. She called it Pineapple Coconut cake and I have looked through all her recipes and couldn't find it. Now I know why, its called a Tornado Cake! Thank you!

Have made this cake several times and it always turns out perfect! Everyone at our church loves it and I always have to make it for potluck the first Sunday of the month because if I showed up without it, they might stone me! Thanks so much for sharing with us. God bless you 🙏🏻

I've been making this cake since I was knee high to a grasshopper ... taught to me by my Grandma. I do have to give one suggestion. The recipe by Grandma used said to stir in the vanilla to your topping right before you put it on your cake. If you add at the beginning, you're literally cooking all the vanilla out of the topping. Food for thought. Love your channel.

I promised you I'd come back and let you know how it turned out! I finally got some pecans and tried your recipe last night. My tornado cake was delicious. It didn't hang around either. I wouldn't change a thing! Thank you very much for this quick and easy dessert recipe that is a real crowd-pleaser. Peace and blessings to all at Southern Country Living.

This is very similar to the "chop suey" cake I grew up with. The difference is that all the ingredients of the topping on yours was baked into the cake in ours, and then frosted with a cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with more coconut and pecans. Crazy delicious!

I’ve had a rather stressful day. I came to look at videos to unwind and YouTube served this up to me.
Your sweet nature, you’re relaxed and lovely speaking, and of course the delicious cake caused my shoulders to move downward about 4 inches!
THANK YOU for being who you are; a gem of a southern gentle lady.
Subbed! I can’t wait to view your recipes. Stay safe from those crazy storms! And enjoy that cake! I know I’m going to.
My mom did this, way up north in Portland Oregon - back when it was liveable. 😣 and she broiled the topping. So awesome, so easy, this cake! I’d forgotten it, and now I’m thinking of her wonderful cooking skills, too. Taught me so much.
God bless you, and thank you. 😊👍❤️
