Bad Charger Port – Bypass Port so I can Mow

5/8/2024

I had to remove my Charger Port. When the Port is bad or removed, the mower will not “start”, move, or mow.
I found a YouTube video from RIB that used a jumper wire to bypass the charging port and allows me to move and mow, until I use up my battery charge. (Then I’ll need to rig up a charging method.)

Charger port:
I think I need a Ryobi Port # 316265001.
The charger port is hard to find, and there are at least two different ports used on the Ryobi 48v mowers. Ryobi Parts apparently does not supply the port any longer.
Most of the websites that list the Ryobi port, note that it is discontinued, back-ordered, or unavailable.
I have ordered a similar looking EZ GO port that’s on it’s way. Maybe that will work.

You could probably create a temporary connector with an Anderson plug and you should be able to plug right in to the Anderson plug on your mower and charge your batteries that way. I did the reverse with my new charger, as it came with an Anderson plug. I adapted the EZGO-style plug in to my system.

I don't know if you saw my comment on your other thread, but for your safety, you should replace the smart charger you originally bought if you haven't done so with one from Dakota Lithium. The model you bought and like models available on Amazon are not grounded internally, which is a problem. Commenters on Amazon have reported arcs and sparks, smoke, a fire, and in my case, a failure of the sensing circuit, which caused the cable to always be energized with 48 volts, even when not plugged in. The problems with that are obvious. They also charge at a voltage above the engineering specs for the CHINS batteries, which I worry could degrade the batteries prematurely. The Dakota Lithium chargers run at the required voltage.

The charging port on my Ryobi 54" is dead. Replacements are impossible to find. Kind of criminal that Ryobi doesn't supply replacement parts on a 3 yr old product. Did you replace yours with EZ GO? If so (and successful) which EZ GO port did you use?

Is this something to do with lithium ion battery conversion that the charging port went bad?
