3:46 Vikings wore Bear Heads? Damn, they're a lot more badass that I had assumed.

If you want to get so technical about it, then I guess Peyton Randolph was the first president. But he was the president of the Continental Congress, which existed before the United States even formed the government. In fact, the US didn't even have a president when they first organized the government.

So legally, the office of the President of the United States was formed in 1789. The office of the President of Continental Congress was formed in 1774.

Here's another myth: Columbus wasn't the first European to discover America. Leif Erikson was, a full 500 years before Columbus, who only found Hispaniola in the Caribbean Sea.

The fact that there are still people who believe that the earth is flat is kinda odd to me.

Myth 8: MARIE ANTOINETTE SAID "LET THEM EAT CAKE"
In reality, this never occurred. Rather the phrase was actually written in a series of autobiographical books by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. This series was written before Marie even became queen of France.

An interesting fact I learned on a trip to Salem (or class after reading the book) about the person killed by being crushed by rocks:
His name is Giles Corey and he was the only one to not plead guilty so they started piling rocks on him one at a time on some boards laid across his chest and stomach. In doing so they were hoping to get him to plead guilty to the charges of being a witch. However, he held out strong for 2 days refusing to plead, even going as far as to ask for more weight when asked to plead guilty. One of the reasons he did this was so his land would stay in his family because if he DID plead guilty it would go to one of his neighbors that already had a lot of land in the town.

The Declaration of Independence wasn't a legal document in which both parties had to sign in order for something to be put into affect, rather, it was a bold statement on a piece of paper exclaiming how we are going to defeat King George. The 4th of July Holiday's meaning is symbolical. In all essence, it is celebrated because it was the day we DECLARED independence. Which I'm pretty sure over the years just got shortened to "Independence Day, " and no one seemed to question it so they just went with it.

Actually, the Declaration of Independence was *ratified* on July 4th. It wasn't signed until August 2nd.
