One of the most disturbing and iconic songs of all time. And yes she's talking about the lynchings in the deep south of the US. Great Reaction.

Billy got into some legal troubles by singing this song, this song was banned from many places she performed at.A very disturbing and very telling song. She was a very bold woman and I love her story and learning about her.RIP sweet girl

Glad you did this one. Haunting song. Brutally descriptive. One of my favorites from that era.

Her singing this song during that era was an act of courage the likes of which most people will ever be capable. She knew that as soon as she opened her mouth, she would become a target and her life in danger, but chose to speak out anyway. If more people looked to people like Ms Holiday as heroes instead of who can run fast with a ball, etc we would have a much better society

This originated as a poem as a protest against lynchings. Turning it into a song hits so hard.

The strength and grace of Miss Billy Holiday was truly amazing. Bless her. ❤

Abel Meeropol, a Jewish American writer and teacher, wrote the poem that became this song. Iconic.

I learned it from a band called Zeal and Ardor then did my own research. Strange fruit is in reference to the hanging and Lynching of African Americans. Crazy stuff. Gotta remember history.

There is video of one of her last performances where she sang this song. The style and intensity contrast is startling and worth seeing

If not disturbing and beautiful, it's pupose would be missed. Greatest song of 100 years and beyond.

You should read up on her. Her story is both amazing and tragic.

Just another rendition of our spirit and warrior on the inside. Y’all might play, but we don’t. We still have to live around these people.

Glad to see that some people know the history of this song. Creepy as hell though, if you really concentrate on the lyrics too long.
