just heard this song on the radio, I'm an Afican American brotha from DC and it just took me back to a time and place in my youth when life was so innocent and carefree, Thanx my Mom and Dad for giving me the greatest gift a child can have and that is a Childhood.

Happy 50th anniversary to this song! It was released this time in 1973!(It’s March 2023 as I post this comment.) May this song by Miss Vicky live on for another 50 years!!!

Vicki Lawrence, I hope you read this someday - someway. I love this story and song and I seem to recall your husband wrote the song and you made it a hit. I was a young teen when this song came out. Thank you for everything - this and Mama and all the characters you’ve played, but especially Mama. You’re so talented! So just, thank you. I’m a Christian and have read you are too. That’s very cool.

It’s so crazy but all of a sudden I can’t get enough of this song! It totally creeps me out but it’s addictive as hell. And I agree that Vickie’s version is better!

Best version. The original. Her husband wrote this, but didn't like it and didn't even make a demo. Vickie liked it, and made it a #1 hit. "See, little sister don't miss when she aims her gun."

“When I was coming down here, I was playin it. And "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" came on. Now I ain't heard that song since it was big, but when it was big, I heard it a million- trillion times. I'm listening to it this morning, and this was the first time I ever realized that the lady singing the song, was the one who killed Andy.”

I was 5 when I heard this song and long before any scary movies or TV shows this song scared the crap out of me. I could see the story in my head like reading a book.
