Thank you for including the tail wagging info. I have a boy who wags his tail when we pet him and haven't been sure whether it was possibly a sign of distress. I've watched so many pet rat videos, and this is the 1st I've seen to mention tail wagging.

Ahhhh! As a rat owner(with a rescue) im just screaming internally. Who just stood by filming that fight in the bathtub instead of stopping them >:(
Its just so obvious that this isn't the normal and " harmless" fight that happens when introducing new rats. Its so obvious that the white one is getting bitten seriously, so obvious that the other one wants to deal damage, so obvious that the other one doesn't let go how it SHOULD at this point because the white one "surrenders" even if not as clearly as it could be.. so it already won and showed who's the boss but still keeps biting... Why, just why? Why didn't they interrupt earlyer?
Poor thing, it's not unlikely that the white one is now really scared or traumatized wich makes it so hard to introduce to other rats even though the physical wounds probably heal really fast and dont seem serious.

i am a rat breeder from ontario and i have close to 1500 rats at any givin time ..your video is dead on to every behavior you mentioned ive seen each one.many times ..but one thing you may want to mention another main reason rats will fight is over water my advice is to use something large around like a frying pan to water them but automatic waterer is best

I don't know... My rats have their eyes open wide and ears forward all the time, and one of them lunges and tries to bite all the time. I was told she may have a pituitary problem and I'm waiting on a vet appointment to verify that.. but still.. worried about her.

One thing the these videos either always get wrong or neglect completely is the need to train a rat to accept it's caretaker. You hold the baby rat in your hand for extended periods while reading, watching TV, whatever. Soon, it will completely trust you. You don't just throw it in a cage and expect it to want to interact, because it won't.

My rat is really shy because I got her from a pet shop and she's not used to human touch at all.... and today I can't tell is she was happy or annoyed. She shattered with her teeth and when I touched her on her back (with good intention to play) she jumped but I couldn't tell is I scared her or she liked it.
