LO HOW A ROSE E'ER BLOOMING LYRICS

Lo, how a Rose e’er blooming from tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse’s lineage coming, as men of old have sung.
It came, a flower bright,
Amid the cold of winter, When half gone was the night.

Isaiah ’twas foretold it, the Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind.
To show God’s love aright,
she bore to men a Savior, When half gone was the night.

This Flower, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere;
True Man, yet very God,
from sin and death He saves us, And lightens every load.

We sing this song together with the family on the Holy Night. The first time for me, to hear it in English-language.

How Wonderful, not a hymn I've ever heard before, but one I will certainly be playing again. Thank you so much for sharing this. God Bless You x

I’ve seen this song written in hymn books, but I can’t read music well, and always wondered what it would sound like.
It’s beautiful!

Best version I have heard so far, the sound and lyrics are clear.

Teaching our congregation this hymn on Sunday...seeing that you just posted this, which is very helpful. The only version I've come across so far (other than Sting's!) that retains the melody's timing, yet is compatible with a contemporary "target genre"...thanks for posting!

Very nice, refined voice. But it lacks something without the WHOLE CHORAL rendition, IMO. Check out an arrangement by Alex Stephens. He renders a personal, four-part version that gives you the chills. The original version is breathtaking. I can't sing it without goosebumps(!) HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ❤✌

There ae FOUR verses to this song, not just the three you have. Why is that?

Total lack of understanding that the "timelessness" of this hymn is in Pretorius' harmonization in 1609, particularly the double suspension of the cadences. Sad
