Turkey (Türkiye) modernized its M60 tanks and used them against the terrorist organization YPG-PKK in Syria. It was not a tank-to-tank battle, but the modernized M60 tanks were able to withstand attacks by terrorists using modern anti-tank missiles. In fact, a significant portion of the tanks we lost were not M60 but more modern German-made Leopard 2A tanks. The reason is that reactive protection systems are weak. Modernized M60 tanks were more successful in Syrian operations.

Good old American tank. With a new twist. If it works why not. Not every country can afford to spend 12 million on new tanks. If you can bring an old tank.up to date and make it work hope it works for them

Nice video.
Budgetary issues can limit choices, but it shouldn't force a country to remain defenceless.
If I had to choose, I would go for the Turkish modernisation kits. The Turkish army is one of the armies still actively using M60s, and the Turkish modernisation kits solve the current problems of the M60.
Maybe the gun upgrade will have to wait for a while due to insufficient budget. Defensive upgrades such as active and passive protection and armour upgrades must be prioritised. Then an engine upgrade for better mobility in hilly terrain. A 105mm gun might not be enough to engage enemy armour, but it would be enough to cover infantry.

Tawain needs to get real, about fighting main land China. And get off the Walmart price tag for weapons system. I was an army tanker for 20 years. The M1 is a great battle tank, but it’s support base to keep it running is beyond Tawains ability. Upgrade your whole tank fleet to the highest possible standard.

if you dont have quality then choose quantity even most of the taiwanese tanks are old and cold war relics, 105 or 120mm gun doesnt matter they must kept all their tanks functional
also taiwan has the advantage of defending island, ccp has to bring their vehicles by landing ships and for soldiers helicopters or airplanes. taiwan should spend money wisely and invest on air defence and shore defence missiles/kamikaze drones

It's amazing just how many versions of the M60 tank are still kicking around the globe under the command of non-Americans. Clearly, one man's trash can be another man's treasure, as they say.

I like the Turkish upgrade kits but at 3 million per it may just be better to buy refurbished or used Abrams, even M1A1s would be better at this point. The US Army has thousands sitting around for emergencies that will likely never be used.

The 105mm gun used as mobile protected firepower in the beach defense role would be extremely effective against amphibious vehicles and landing craft. Taiwan has to stop the invasion on the beach, preventing the CCP from off-loading heavy tanks.

In Austria 🇦🇹 Europe we had the M-60 tanks too. It was a good tank but it’s L7 gun became weak against the T-72 tank. So Austria bought the Leopard II-A4 tank which will be upgraded now to the A6 standard. Greetings from Linz Austria 🇦🇹 Europe! 🫡🪖😎👍💪🍀🐺

105 will work just fine with a high explosive round for infantry troops anti-tank missiles would be money well-spent for their defensive strategy

As a Cold War M60A3 tanker, it would be awesome to see a 120 in this tank.

If the M60 needs to fight PLA tanks the war is already lost. The M60s are good enough to protect the coastline from landing craft and survive moderately intense artillery.

Idk if we can change anything through the comment section here, but my honest response for RoC Army would be to purchase the MZK Modernization program from Turkiye and look for purchasing more M1A2T for possible Tank-to-Tank Battles. With modern munitions 105mm Guns are still capable at Tank-to-Tank battles, especially against Eastern Bloc Tanks and I'm sure Taiwan alr has a huge 105mm stock that you can't just throw into the trash. So MZK modernization's main + would be a completely new turret with APS and 2-member turret design, so in total tank has 3 crew. You forgot to add, but the MZK turret's main change is Autoloader for its main gun. Considering that Turkiye's intentions to widen its defense industry network around the globe, I don't think Turkish officials would refuse the Taiwanese with a good deal. Switching to 120mm is also a thing, but it'll cost a lot and also require a greater eco-system for 120mm munitions for the RoC Army.

It's 8.5 million per unit for a K2 Black panther, which is what I'd pick if i were the Taiwanese government. Highly capable tank with less licensing baggage than the Leopard 2. If they can fully upgrade the protection, mobility, and FCS for less than 5 million a unit, I'd say it's worth it. Just depends on what the protection looks like

Those upgrades will not be enough. They need new tanks, and a lot of them.

I think the Type 10, from Mitsubishi, would be an ideal replacement for the Taiwanese M60s. They are smaller, lighter, and considerably more lethal than most. They’re also network integrated, allowing for data sharing and more effective communication.

Just add the turret on top of the Raytheon upgrade package. That will fix the hull armor issues and will give more modern foreign controls with the upgraded turret armor and detection package from turkey.

Turkish MZK modernization program is most cheapest but most effective to compare other modernizations.
