I think Zoya Akhtar was very angry with whole bollywood institution being attacked on the issue of talentless nepotism. So she just out of spite decided to make this movie. She wasnt being serious.

Tom Alter was Anglo-Indian by ethnicity..but he was always a proud, flawless Hindi and Urdu speaking Indian..it's sad that the makers didn't even take the sentiments of the Anglo-Indian community into account, just so they could perpetuate their stereotypes 😢

Adaptations are good when made with integrity as Sanjay Leela Bhansali did with Romeo and Juliet and gave us Ram Leela, it was a pure Indian adaptation! Also if you talk about new to the industry and being under the pressure of having a legendary father in acting, don’t forget how Babil Khan made his debut in qala and blew our minds ! So yeah this could have been the easiest role offered to them yet they failed lol😅

When I think of 1960s India. I think of actresses like Sharmila tagore and Waheeda Rehman and actors like Dev Anand and Sunil Dutt . Trust me, they also potrayed elite characters but there characters weren't so anglicized like this. More of a mixture of classical western and Indian look of that era.

It's better watching your review than torturing ourselves with the original movie.

Anyone with a working knowledge of post-independent India would know that in 1964 (which is the year the movie is set in), India was going through a tough phase. Political instability was rife after the passing of Jawaharlal Nehru, the morale of the nation was low after the defeat in the Sino-Indian War, and the threat of an armed conflict with Pakistan was looming large. To top it all, India was badly hit by inflation, and food shortage—insofar that we were heavily dependent on American food aid, and there was immense pressure from international agencies to devalue the rupee. Of course, none of this is reflected in the movie. How can Riverdale be immune to all this, especially when most of the characters were small business owners?

And actor like Tripti Dimri had to do 10-15mins outfit revealing cameo to become new national cursh of the nation . Despite proving her talent right from 2018… 😢 . This is sad reality

I still remember Rockford, an english speaking Indian movie, that was based on school students, thousand times better than films like Archies.

I think Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander was a better indian adaptation of Archies :)

I've been reading Archie's for almost 25 years now, and I can vote that Dilton Doiley is definitely not a Gay character. He's presented as an extra-studious, class-topper guy who spends most of his time inside his science lab instead of dating girls. But I've read in many comics that he went to dates and even asked for dating tips from Betty and Veronica when he liked any girl. The Cheryl Blossom series showed him attracted to Cheryl.
I knew this movie would be sheer 'Gobar', but Zoya Akhtar should actually apologize to Archie's fans like us for ruining our teenage fantasies!! 😠

It almost feels like the powerful Bollywood families are conspiring to not let talented outsiders enter in this industries, so that the audience will have to rely on them for entertainment. They don't want the outsiders to get any limelight or popularity, because that will ruin their popularity and influence over the media and industry.

Zoya Akhtar: Yes.

Irony is when Zoya and reema asked about casting Nepo kids then she replied what about other 4 kids we also have casted them but she forgot to mentioned that they are just side characters, she never casted on the basis of acting talent because they are 1000 times better than Suhana, agastya and Khushi. Bollywood never going to stop doing this they always have complex and fear of talented actors . Same when Aalia posted about Animal she mentioned like almost nothing about Tripti Dhimri who is actually better than her and deserve best actor for Qala for this year for OTT but they even bought it and gave it to Aalia for Darlings pathetic

Agastya has potential if he works on his hindi diction. Suhana and Khushi are giving Ananya Pandey major competition. All the plastic surgical procedures could not make Khooshi any better looking. Suhana is SRK with extra padded pushup bras and no acting skills.2 Non nepo boys has potential but they will not get the chances they deserve. So overall its all about sets and costumes.

Again we are missing the important issue here.

The issue isn't of rich vs Non- rich or elite vs Non- elites. If that would have been the case then the only difference would have been of luxury but the actual only issue is of cultural relativity.. Elites of all colonised societies aren't rooted in their own culture, for example while French, German elites would still be French, German, Indian elites are heavily westernised coconuts.. A poor German, middle class German and rich German can relate to each other.

That's why Spanish people can relate with 'ELITE' because of cultural relativity not luxury lifestyle whereas in India the issue is not of luxury lifestyle but cultural relativity as we sae during films like 'CLASS' or 'ARCHIES'.

All colonised societies, their elites are deracinated coconuts who aren't rooted in worldview of own civilization. Our elite speak in English, only worldview is of Anglosphere, hate their own culture because as Macaulay said 'Indian in blood only'

No wonder it was released on an Ott platform rather than in theatres 😊😊
