I love being surprised and gifted when I turn on TCM to watch a movie and Donald Sutherland is in it, no matter the role. I say surprised in a serendipitous way as I usually don't look first to see what movie and who's in it. I look forward to seeing more of his earlier works as I came to movie watching when he had already had many many acting credits. Thank you Mr. Sutherland for your gift you shared with the world.

I saw M*A*S*H at a neighborhood theater probably about 1972. The local theaters would regularly show second and third runs of big movies. If you didn't get downtown to see a big movie, just wait, in a year or so it'll show up at the outliers.
I was only about 12, and spent Saturdays at the movies with paper route friends. I guess the general consensus to the theater owner was that we were off the street.
That was my first time seeing Donald Sutherland, so it's the character I most identify with. His Hawkeye Pierce was a good man in a hard place, but carrying with him the character of decency.

These "TCM Remembers" tributes are usually quite good. This one did not begin to capture the breadth and depth of Sutherland....needed to get someone who really knew his work. Needed moments from THE DISAPPEARANCE, ORDINARY PEOPLE and LOCK UP - and better, more revealing moments from KELLY'S HEROES and EYE OF THE NEEDLE.

Donald Sutherland as Mister X in JFK is my favourite. As a nine year old I watched on television the JFK assassination 1963 unfold…Light years later Mister X shed light on this event…
