From where do we get the concepts of “apocalyptic,” “eschatology,” “salvation history,” and “delay of the parousia”? Modern scholars of Biblical Israel’s ancient political religion and the prophets who proclaimed its transformation are burdened with a scholarly spurious familiarity. Bruce Malina shows that this spurious familiarity derives from 18th and 19th century Northern European ideology and categorization which support the attempts of late 20th and 21st century scholars to maintain continuity with their past Northern European theological ideology.

But if what you're saying is true, that means a WHOLE LOT of people are completely wrong. That is a scary thought. These ideas are being taught as fact, preached from pulpits, and heavily influencing US politics. I've tried to bring up the idea that maybe some of this isn’t about the end times (especially Revelation), but most really just don't want to hear it. But I guess I can't blame them. It's all they know.
