for us- being a minimalist family means we are able to reset very quickly. By having just what we use a lot, we have way less than other households- it's easy and fast to put things back, clean (reset). People visiting visibly relax when they enter our home ( we intentionally made it very visually uncluttered, made it feel spacious, airy, let in natural light as much as possible). People never think we are minimalists, they just say they realized they have way too much at their house. Thanks for this video. I agree whole heartedly.

I am happy I have found your channel Shannon. I started my journey a year ago with Josh Becker and the Minimal Mom. You are helping me to continue and strengthen this wonderful lifestyle for me. Thank you!

I have always liked the ‘simple’ look. My dad lived plainly, no clutter, while my mom likes lots of things. I always breathed easier at his house and I think that’s why. We are in our 50s and I am decluttering so we can downsize our house and retiring will be easy. Besides, coming into my home when it’s decluttered and easy in the eyes is a wonderful thing.

Thanks for sharing Shannon! The one that really bothers me is when people believe there is a certain mold you have to fit in to be minimalist. It’s just about only owning what you use and love!

We're middle class but even if I became low or high I'd still choose minimalism. Mess and clutter stresses me out. It's easier to keep a clean house with less.

Perfect video...there are some people who just think minimalists are crazy because they don't want cluttered houses. That's okay. While they are spending more time cleaning and decluttering, we will spend the time enjoying our family, etc!!

Forget poor or rich. Some just prefer to be debt free! Being dust free is an additional benefit...

YES! Thank you for debunking these myths.
There's a surprising amount of hate, prejudice and misconceptions regarding minimalism out there, which absolutely baffles me. Whatever happened to "live and let live"?? :O

I'm neither poor nor rich, I can live quite comfortably, yet my income is not too much as to tempt me into buying useless crap.
My decluttering journey started years ago and I'm still at it. Many things were bought out of frustration with work, as a dysfunctional coping mechanism, so to speak.
Decluttering my own stuff it shouldn't take that much longer, but I'll have to deal with some inherited things and also help my mother (who was a borderline hoarder years ago but got very interested in minimalism recently).
My home is pretty comfy and not spotless. I'm LIVING here after all, and also have a lot of art and diy projects going on.

Ok, so much for my 2 cents!

PS: You guys are hilarious, the last part: omg XD

I love this video, Shannon! Minimalism looks different for every family. Thank you for sharing these myths. Like you, we still have stuff. But it’s stuff that matters.

Decluttering is like dusting. They both need to get done and the less stuff you have the easier they are.

I have decluttered so much so that I now have 8 assorted x-large sized empty bins in the garage, and oddly enough can’t bring myself to let them go! I don’t understand myself. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I totally agree. I thought I had to declutter once and be done with it, and five years in I continue to get rid of stuff. For me decluttering was only 1/2 of it the other half of it was getting my head around not bringing more things in. That is slowly becoming the more important of the two. Another great video thank you💗

I have less surrounding me and it makes me feel more relaxed and I can focus on the things I like to see, instead of a clutter of decor.

So right. Found myself nodding at each point. The maintenance of the initial efforts to pare down to the personal essentials. I began the journey in 1984 or so with a toddler and a 5 year old. Dh and I are retired in an apartment now.

I find it funny how many people think purging and decluttering is a one and done kinda thing. We purge a few times a year! I am so glad we chose minimalism, though. A sudden move of homes made it so much faster, and when my husband started a biz and we had to live off of just my teacher's salary, our lifestyle allowed for it.

I want to be a minimalist because:
1 easy clean up
2 spirituality

Sectional furniture is a nightmere to clean between as it is heavy to move, hard to pull apart to suck up pop corn.
