Great Coffee without Compromise: Designing High Performance Compostable Coffee Pods with Ingeo

A coffee pod is a complex package designed to do one thing well: create the perfect cup of coffee. A good pod is designed to balance pressure and extraction, barrier and flavor while withstanding high temperatures and punctures, but a great pod delivers equal performance and is compostable, so it’s easier for consumers to keep those used coffee grounds out of a landfill.

Using our advanced material characterization and modeling capabilities, we have been able to quantify what it takes to create a high performing compostable pod. We can apply this information to our understanding of Ingeo as a biobased, compostable material to help manufacturers create better pod components including rigid capsules, nonwoven filters, and multi-layer lidding that add up to a better cup of coffee for consumers.
