Steering column mounted shifters are my preference. Best use of space IMO.

They all suck. My wife learned the hard way. Going from a traditional lever shifter to a rotary style, she flipped the wrong direction, hit Drive instead of Reverse, panicked, accidentally hit the throttle and drove through the front door. I shit you not.
Now I'm a grumpy old man at 30y/o when it comes to automatic shifter design.

For I7, from D/B, does it go from N to R when you shift it up? Or if you shift the the gear all the way up then it goes from D/B to R at once without stopping at N?

As an electronic engineer, i disapprove. Give us back the hand shifter rods and none of these weak ass crap.

Basically there is no point to have traditional gear selector in EV. It's just rudiment...

Lucid calls it a drive selector. That would be a better name for all cars, since it doesn't shift gears on an EV. It selects the direction of drive, or disengages driving, either while putting on a parking brake or not (i.e. neutral).

People have managed to move from a gas pedal to an accelerator, but "gear" has been more stubborn than "dial" for telephones.
