Understand your E6B! Obtaining ground speed and heading.

UNDERSTAND your E6B. A walkthrough for the Private Pilot, explaining how to obtain groundspeed and heading, given wind direction and speed.

Remember, the E6B doesn't care if you use True or Magnetic, just be sure to use the same type of heading throughout the problem, i.e. if you use true winds, you will get true headings.

Instead of saying wind mode or aircraft mode and confusing people on what you're talking about, just read the instructions on the E6B itself right above and make it simple for those who actually don't know how to use the wizwheel. Besides that, very good video brother!

So at what point in these calculations are you adding in or subtracting magnetic variation for the isogonic lines?

Hi Stefano Bertoldo., since wind is given in true you need to convert MC to TC by ADDING east variation, that is, the reverse signs of the old addage True Virginians Make Dull Company therefore MC 214d PLUS magnetic variation 14d east yields TC 228d, wind correction angle16d right yielding TH 244d and TAS 113. Interesting problem. Anyone else work this? HTH.
