The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of hands-on problem-solvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.

The MIT YouTube channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video.

Remember that “completing search and rescue missions” is roboticist code for “we just invented this cool robot and we have no idea what to do with it”

love it, I wonder how much thrust they put out though, since they dont seem to be carrying their own power source just yet

Yes most insects I've seen act and maneuver just like that, hovering in place. Well done narrator.

Somenoe build an electric vehicle using this, but with 6 spider legs instead of wheels. Maybe just a motorocycle spider with some weird control options possible, like normal handlebars or a joystick, or some foot pedals, forward lean or sitting, etc.

The only drawback is that you will need humans organizing the wires that power the drones, everywhere they go.

From a technical perspective, this is truly revolutionary! Though I have to say I can't yet imagine it flying efficiently with an independent power source. Battery industry gotta keep up the game! LOL

Considering that all the computation and power storage/delivery is offloaded, this is several technological evolutions away from practical use.
