Cities Skylines 2 Graphics Look Kinda Bad??

Cities Skylines 2 is just around the corner and, well, I have some critiques of things I have seen so far. Let's take a look at some of the graphical quality issues I have noticed in the trailers we've seen thus far!

Those empty spaces, I’d like to see it auto fill based on property values. Poor areas, trash, tents, broken down cars, etc. High value, fountains, flowers, trees, etc. This could be applicable to all zones.

The future of this genre lies in having procedural and simulated progression via AI. Meaning, some neighborhoods can procedurally look dirty, clean, rich, crime rate going up or down, neighborhoods evolve into different characteristics like Chinatown, African, hipster, gentrfified etc so that you can just watch your city evolve rather than having fixed presets.

If people stopped buying games that are not finished, maybe we would get finished games. CS2 is not going to be finished at launch, they are currently probably busy developing the first batch of DLCs for the game.

My thinking is, the trailer and videos they show us are built on an older version of the game therefore there's parts missing yet, we still have about 3 months so let's hope it gets better, not gonna pre-order cause don't want to get my hopes up there and be let down. We'll see at launch

It's a shame because people slate Unity, it's actually possible to achieve WAY BETTER graphical fidelity. The texture work is frankly terrible in Cities 2. I'd go as far as to say the 2015 low-res textures from the first game actually look better! The only improvement is the lighting and they are not using physically based rendering to it's fullest, no normal mapping, specular maps or anything.

I totally agree and I think people will be disappointed as that's the exact game we'll get on release.

Big fan of the series and I felt the same way about some of the shots I saw. I am so excited for the new AI and gameplay, but the roads really bother me. It looks like a track on a ride in some parts. Like the intersection you show at 5:17, the roads are so bland. I would really like to see more textures on the road and natural. Like maybe the road looks more grittier the more it is used, and dirt roads picking up dust, etc.

Graphical fidelity is like the last thing to implement in a game. Two dollars twenty just quickly threw this map together some time ago, of course its not going to be decked out like our 4-5 year ongoing builds. Theres a reason cinematic camera and photo mode will be the last presented.

I was really looking forward to CS2 but then I saw some videos of people playing it and it just looked... ugly. Not sure I wanna play it anymore honestly. I am glad it is not just my opinion that it looks bad.

Obviously the white bushes are showing there's some graphical glitches with textures loading in. This footage is also from an older build of the game.

And people are for these graphics. They argue that it’s fine for no good reason. Peoples are crazy

I am excited for the game, but I do have my concerns as well. Honestly, the only thing that bugs me about the graphics are the textures for the grass and pavement (which looks like paper, rather than having a 3D form). My biggest gripe is that we are getting the same grid based layout as CS 1, which will result in oddly placed buildings again. It's especially bad with low residential houses, which have obviously squared/rectangle shapes due to the way the yard and fences were designed.
The comparison shots you did at 3:58 really does show a bit of downgrade in some of the textures. Hopefully CO fixes this, since some of the plants are still missing textures as well. I wasn't a fan of the ruined texture on the Temperate maps in CS 1, but they should have just toned it down instead of completely getting rid of it.

Looks like they turn down the textures and level of detail, but the game is in beta. So let's see how the game looks when it finally come out in October

I remembered watching this before the release and sort of agreed already, but after the game has been out for a while I had to come back to this to tell you that you were completely right all along. And it's not just the level of detail in this game, it's also the anti-aliasing. It looks worse than the first title in many ways.

Yes it's still a couple of flaws, they even don't have riders on the motorcycles yet but I hope they're working on it. Probably they focused on finishing the gameplay mechanic first so they can give the game to Twodollarstwenty to make the city for the trailer. And I don't know if all the shots for the trailer was taken by him long ago when he built it or the developers will record new shots everytime they're going to release a trailer if it's the later, I hope we'll see some improvement.
PS: This is unrelated topic, but by chance is the channel name inspired or related to Takarazuka Theater Show?

You didn't even see the woman without her head near the "Flowers" because of how bad they were.

I've been waiting for someone to talk about how bad the graphics look. Lighting looks really bad as well. Not happy about this and I hope it changes. getting KSP 2 vibes.

Also, the lighting in game isnt great. It needs a better global illumination system, and right now its making everything look flat. Doesnt seem like they are using HDRIs or similar

i hope they spend the next few months polishing textures, a lot of these look like pre-release beta placeholders ie the flowers and low res road textures i thought i had heard there was to be ray tracing in this, doesnt look that way based on what we are seeing here tho, disappointing but at least it will be a day 1 release on game pass so i can take it for a good run before putting down the money for the ultimate edition

This is all beta footage, so it's possible things will change. Not to mention mod support will help with textures if there is a need.
