Turkey once was cheap place to visit with shopping and food but with recent experience i literally had to budget it out much carefully. No more shopping, only sightseeing and eating at cheaper restaurants.

They know exactly what people are visiting Istanbul for, so I am not surprised having to pay for it. However compared to other cities, the prices of sights in Istanbul are totally out of the way. A day in Euro disney is cheaper. I personally believe they would make more money if they made it a bit cheaper. These prices will only lead to people making choices and not visiting certain spots, moving around to other parts of the city where it is more affordable and spending less in overall. Thanks for giving us the insight.

Was in Istanbul last week for a few days. I think it was quite expensive for things like attractions, beers and cocktails, raki... Food was a little more cheaper for the quality, some more expensive than others but tasty. Baran Et Mangal was fantastic and very cheap for what we had.

I had a clean shave and ear flaming that was 300 Lira which I thoght was cheap.

A great city but with the inflation of the currency it feels like a lot of prices have gone up with it and I feel bad for the locals. As an example I think Lisbon and Bilbao was cheaper than Istanbul and with cheaper attractions

Also a tip, if you think Galata Tower is too expensive, there's a cafe near it with a roof terrace that gives very similar views for a fraction of the cost. It's usually quiet and you can buy a coffee or tea at the top for very similar views. It's called Galata Konak Cafe & Restaurant

B4 eat..Check the menu for the range price.. make sure the waiter can speak simple english or we can speak simple turkish word.. upon payment, make sure all price on the bills clear for each menu which has been served and eaten..and then pay. Be careful for some restaurant with no price tag

Istanbul has become incredibly expensive. At IST airport I had to pay around 12 Euro for a large beer. Insane! Service in hotels and restaurants is not interested in hospitality but much more in using the smartphone instead. Istanbul has changed a lot to the worse. Unfortunately…

It's really worth to buy an Istanbul tourist e card for all major attractions and a plain card for public transportation. Saves A LOT of money.

The cost of tourism has grown so much that Turkey is on par with London, Paris and New York.
Turkish government is killing the tourism industry. Imagine a family of 3 people paying 3x$285 to see the attractions only. Adding hotel, transport, food and Airplane tickets you need to apply for a big loan from the bank to come to Turkey.
There are many places in Europe that are cheaper to visit.

When I travelled to İstanbul about two months ago, I arrived at Sabiha Gökçen Airport and there's an option to take the Metro from the airport and then the Marmaray to get to the European Side, and I consider it much cheaper than the bus to Taksım.

I was there in Jan. Topkapi palace is expensive but really worth it. lots to see. Hagia Sophia was really not worth it though. 25 euro for a 10min walk around the mezzanine area we had access to. Avoid it unless you are going to pray.

Thanks for the update Bery, super helpful 👌

because of these prices i had to cut off my list:
-Dolmabahce Palace
-Topkapi
-Maidens Tower;
Galata tower is under renovation right now, so it is not accessible. However, i strongly suggest you to visit:
-Arter (3€)
-Naval Museum (6€)
-Archeological Musesum (10€)

I just recently been to Istanbul. First of all thank you for this channel for the useful tips.

I only paid for Basilica Cistern's entrance. It's magical and I have seen nothing like that.
I went to many mosque and bazaar with no entry. I took ferry instead of Boshphorus tour.

If the entry fee is any less I woulda certainly visited more, especially the palaces.

Tho this allowed me to spend more time to chill, enjoy the amzing food, drink, and some shopping. Things are cheaper compared to my recent stay in Dubai, and visit to other parts of Europe. Designer lables is also a lot cheaper (15%-20%+) than MENA, Asia, and the US.

I'm a foreigner living in Turkey for more than a year a half at this point. The economic struggle of this country has only gone up 10 fold and will continue to get worse. Prices of everything increase every week. For those coming to Turkey to visit, I strongly urge you to always ask about prices before you buy anything, as many times they won't bother having them written. Restaurants especially in/near touristic areas can absolutely price gouge you and in some cases add a "10% foreigner's tax" on your food bill. Look at menus with prices written. If it's not easy for tourists anymore, imagine how hard it has been on the locals.

Just came back from Istanbul yesterday. Yes, the prices for attractions are relatively high. But honestly, everything else is fairly cheap, bar some tourist traps. One place that is ridiculously expensive is IST airport. The food there is a shameless daylight robbery and I'm not sure how they allow that. It really puts shame on the whole Turkey.
