Situation At Matheson Hammock Park In Miami-Dade Heats Up

CBS4's Bobeth Yates reports on Miami-Dade County commissioners discussing plans that could change how people access the nature preserve and if and how their dogs would be allowed.

I grew up with this park. It’s beautiful and unique because it’s natural and untouched. Ms. Regalado, it doesn’t need restoration, development or a Boardwalk. No one is in favor of your project except you and the 6 homeowners that want to keep the people out. Thousands of us are unanimous in begging you to leave the park alone! Listen to your constituents. And no, I don’t own a dog and this isn’t about dogs.

If they are concerned about the dogs being able to come there I understand, because the owners want the dogs but don’t want the responsibility. They allow the dogs to poop everywhere and don’t pick it up, the dogs urinate everywhere. Some owners allow their dogs to go up, run at or jump on people and that invades people privacy. No one wants to constantly be looking to see if there is poop on the ground or have to smell it. Keep the dogs out because some of the owners will eventually turn it into a circus

They're absolutely should be no dogs, cats, or any animals or pets of any sort allowed! What else are they going to destroy in that area. They removed one of the most awesome places being Parrot Jungle, and ruined that area! What is Matheson Hammock next? Politicians in South Florida are absolute joke.

On Tuesday’s meeting, everything was said to make it seem this resolution had nothing to do with West Matheson. Now here we are.
I hope DERM also studies your project Ms. Regalado and the effects of closing the north gate entrance and redirecting traffic through the hardwoood hammock trail.
