I sometimes wish I could connect with people that feel so incredibly rooted in their 'food culture'. Food is not only a part of one's identity (and heritage), but cooking is also a universal language that transcends 'language'. It is not a means to an end - it really defines us as a civilization, and I feel like I can connect to different heritages by cooking their food.

Thai pork fried rice. I long for it. They use a yellow oil of some type. Lite and nutty.real fluffy too.the vegetables are always chuncy yet transparent. Real comfort food and good liberty food, while visiting as apart of a task force while serving in the U.S Navy Pattaya beach, and Bangkok.

Indomie is so popular in West Africa I think most have forgotten it's origins. Admittedly I didn't even know it originated in Indonesia.

Well i'm 56, in Australia and grew up in Queensland, Gold Coast.
I ate nearly all of them threw-out my life.
Goes to show how multi-cultural Australia has always been.
Donna Kabab hands down favourite. We make it in a flat bread and toast it before serving. So good after a night out.

You forgot South Germany. We have very special hand and home made noodles called "Spätzle". Check them out yourself by searching with "Spaetzle". If they formed small and somehow round they are called "Knöpfle", same dough, but an other region, also in the South.

I'm Dutch, but I have never heard of someone eating stroopwafels as dessert. We just eat them as cookies, quite often with a mug of hot steaming coffee or tea. We put the stroopwafel on our mugs so the syrup melts.

In Germany, potato dumplings are served with schnitzel only extremely rarely. We like to schnitzel rather fries, potato salad or fried potatoes.
