Gaza’s war through a child’s eye | Witness Documentary

In Deir Al Balah, an Israeli air strike hits the house next door to nine-year-old Elaf and her family. They had already escaped their home in the Bureij refugee camp after days of Israeli bombardment. When their dreams of a truce turn into reality, Elaf returns home to discover childhood treasures and the fate of her friends amidst the rubble. But as the truce ends and the bombardment restarts, Elaf and her family are forced to relocate once again.

Thank you so much for making this documentary. Elaf's mum is so strong, loving and resilient in courage and faith it's incredible to see. Despite chaos and destruction, not knowing if they will live to see the next day and yet their character stays strong, kind, thoughtful of others, loving, and caring. They are truly Allah's people. Elaf is a beautiful child who loves life and learning, to see her packing her toys, books and clothes in her little bag was just heart breaking and yet she remained so calm. May Allah protect you all, give you victory, peace and freedom ❤

So hard to watch this. When she says “I don’t need my uniform, there’s no school” How can you live in Israel knowing this is what the other side lives like? It’s just beyond shameful. God blessing and care be with this family and the rest of humanity.

As a child of Palestine the realisation or the knowledge that they were and still are living under an occupation seemed somewhat irrelevant. She says that before the war life was wonderful. Because she is only a child and what she had before the war was enough to make her happy. Being safe, going to school, having books and toys and beautiful clothes. These are the things that all children deserve 😢.

This family’s strength and resilience is beyond what can we imagine. Still smiling and being hopeful while their whole memories are being unjustly taken away…
This little girl really deserves a better future, every children like her deserve to live a happy and safe life. They deserve to go to school, to play, to learn, to live their dreams. They didn’t ask for this. None asked for it.
The trauma they have been experiencing is too much, I can’t even imagine. Some of them are waiting for a doctor appointment or a surgery for their health.
I’m tired of this crazy madness from our governments that really don’t care about innocent lives.
It must stop, a ceasefire has been demanded for months now. But I’ve understood that they have no humanity.
I hope we see a free Palestine soon, where kids and families will live happily and freely. 🤍

Even in this great suffering, I see so much light and love shining from them. I see a gentleness of spirit, a kindness for their fellow man, an innocence that's not only of great value, but greatly protected. Even in this great suffering, I see sharing, thinking of others before themselves, close friendships, compassionate spirits, wanting only to live and to love the Lord God Almighty, shown so clearly in how they treat their fellow man. Even in this great suffering, I see the love and light of God shinning brightly from within them. May God of all have mercy and bring an end to this great suffering. Let the children live.
