In the World of trading words like “Dax”, “Footsie”, “support”, “resistance”, “forex pair” can all be a bit confusing. So here is a video about the FTSE 100 (pronounced “footsie one hundred”) - the 100 largest UK companies on the Financial Times Stock Exchange.

Together with our Chief Market Strategist David Jones, we go over the principles that determine which UK companies are in the index, or are substituted every three months, as well as how to understand its movements and how to trade it.

So what is the FTSE 100 index? It represents the 100 companies with the highest value on the London Stock Exchange and is responsible for the largest volume of shares being exchanged every day on the exchange. The reason for this is that FTSE 100 trading represents the best (and possibly the easiest) way to take part in the overall growth of the UK stock market.

It’s also known as the UK 100 index and can be considered as the simplest entry point to gain an understanding of the UK stock market for beginners. Index trading for beginners isn’t too different than trading forex, individual stocks or gold but it does require a certain amount of knowledge and experience of how indices work and how individual companies or groups of companies (like financial, healthcare, etc.) can impact its price.

So if you want to learn how to start stock market trading and create your own FTSE trading strategy, watch this video and subscribe to our channel for regular updates about UK 100 trading.

Thank you for the video. I’m an American and have a portion of my money in an index fund that follows the FTSE. I wasn’t entire familiar with it like I am the S&P and the DJIA.

@FTSE100, Hello from San Diego and happy to find you today! A bit of a late bloomer, notably I evaluate from the US 2016 election. As mentioned, @FTSE100 the vialitility at 1/2 and 1/2, roughly between 2018-2020? Another speculation would be as of date the UK's upcoming exceeds: housing, the € momentarily, and the industrial market? By all means, inflation succeeds with the importance of government and economy!

Hello, I am a beginner in this field and I follow your videos which is best for me to learn. Thanks for that. It is very confusing for me when I have checked one of the share in the Trading view platform when market is closed. The last candle(4.30 pm) of the day is showing green colour in the time frame of 1, 3, 30 45 min & also in 1, 2, 3, 4 hr period. But this last candle is showing red colour in others time frame. Why is that? Could you explain for me? Thanks

it's not popular with investors. It is the worst performing stock market among developed countries over the last two decades and hasn't even recovered to pre-pandemic levels. On top of that it is now officially the wokest stock exchange in the world insisting x number of women and ethnic minorities on corporate boards and in 'ethical' investing before it will even allow new entries ( see Deliveroo stock collapse). Lacking technology companies and dominated by low growth banks, oil and food production it will likely remain a bad investment. The only people making money out of it are traders and people working there. 5 year performance : S+P 500 = +90%, FTSE 100 =5%
