As someone in a family with a generation gap and had a person who kept the entire family together that passed away, I think seeing Bulma's and Goku's families drifting apart is entirely believable.

The instant my grandfather passed, my entire family hard fractured and drifted apart. I went from having a ton of aunts, uncles, and cousins to having my mother, and that's it.

Watching Kaiser get so emotional is just such a testament to how much this series means to him. The good and bad, the highs and lows, it’s an integral part of his life and it’s beautiful to see him show that. And then there’s lanis beautifully dorky self there to joke through the emotion lol
