Jarrett, you've zeroed in on what has appealed to me all my life concerning the appeal of vinyl records. They're really romantic and quite visceral and downright fun!

I think people buy vinyl for the same reason people by old cars. It's not about how advanced or developed it is, but rather the hobby of taking care of a thing and upgrading your hardware and so on.

Digital music is VERY convenient in so many ways, buy vinyl records have their own magic. It's more like a ritual: crate digging at the store, cleaning the record, setting up the turntable, etc.
For me it's like a way to relax a little after a long day at work and university. I love buying cheap old jazz records from rare artists, it creates a nostalgic ambience in my bedroom that chills me out...

As a teenager in the early 80's I used to play my vinyl records for hours. I knew every crackle, pop and hiss and I knew those were unique to my records making the experience solely my own.

Your reasons for buying vinyl are very reasonable and comprehensible! Btw, this channel is great and deserves more subscribers!

I grew up listening to vinyl record albums and 45's in the 60's and 70's. I have listened to 8 tracks, cassettes, reel to reel, and cd's, but always come back to vinyl. A collection of vinyl albums is like a collection of old friends. After playing an album over a period of time you know exactly where it skips a little or where it has a crackle or a pop due to some minor scratch that occurred during a party or maybe due to a little carelessness somewhere along the way. In some intangible way these imperfections become part of the whole experience and are enjoyable and add beauty rather than taking it away. I know people who didn't grow up during the same time period may not understand but for me that's how I view vinyl.

This was my only choice and I used to have many records.  When the CD came out, I was so excited.. Flawless, no more pops and noise.  Now, (especially with older 60's stuff).. those things that used to annoy me comfort me.  It's also cool to hang out with friends and listening to an album and it becomes a social thing.  Where as everyone with an iPhone has ear buds in and it becomes an isolated thing.  I also tend to listen to the entire album, side A and B, and then put another one on the platter.  The artwork, liner notes are also such a cool thing and add to the experience.  Going to the record store (Vs. an online store) is so much more rewarding.  Even though I had gotten rid of all my records and jumped feet first into the MP3 world, it is exciting rebuilding my collection again.  I also just upgraded my turntable to a direct drive, and got some really nice Bose speakers.... My man cave gets much more use now.

Why buy vinyl? Because Tool doesn't sell their music digitally.

+blargh Hey! Thanks for checking out my video! I usually use a flat bottomed brush first to clear away larger dust and dirt clumps. I then put the record on my turntable, and while rotating it, I use some RCA D4+ record cleaning solution combined with their RCA brush to give it a nice deep clean. I'll be posting a video about the process very soon!

I got a turntable, audio technica one, forgot the name of it for my birthday, and the first vinyl I got was "In Rainbows" by Radiohead and to have something so amazing to look at really helped change my perspective of how amazing music is. So I started posting it on instagram, and I collected more and more, such as billy joel, david bowie, electric light orchestra, the doors, the beatles. ETC. and I love it to this day, and it's almost become a healthy obsession to love music.

A lot of your points (other than the sound) also applies to CDs. The big takeaway here is that there is a definite plus to physical media, over just buying digital files. The booklet (in the case of the CD), the gatefold (in the case of vinyl) add to the experience. If you ever have a chance, check out the first pressing of "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" by The Alan Parsons Project. The gatefold has a complete booklet in the middle the full size of the album, with rice paper in between each page. It's truly something wonderful to behold.

I completely agree with what you're saying here, and I appreciate you saying it. I love the whole experience of listening to and collecting vinyl. In a world where everything is becoming more and more digital and non-tangible, it's nice to have this hobby that is physical and in the moment.

I started collecting vinyl when I was 13, here I am, 8 months later, still 13 and I already have 16 records. And it's literally the only thing I spend my money on and I'm pretty proud of knowing that I could also spend it on food or other useless stuff that I'm never gonna need.

the first reason i actually switched to vinyl was, because i wanted exclusive songs that just werent on any album... especially if you are looking for a specific genre that was spezialized on vinyl and singles. after that i found love in all the other reasons you mentioned... the feel of it, the possibility to influence the music and playback... having the music, like owning it. itz just crazy, but i love it :)
