Title: Going Down To The River
Lyrics & Music: Douglas Seegers

I'm going down to the river to wash my soul again
I've been runnin' with the Devil and I know that he's not my friend
I've been falling by the wayside livin' in this world of sin
I'm going down to the river, gonna wash my soul again

I'm going down to the country to bury my head in the creek
I'm gonna jump into that water, baptize both my feet
'Cause everywhere I've been walking I've been getting in trouble deep

I'm going down to the river, gonna wash my soul again
Well, this whole world's going to hell in a handbasket
If I don't get some resurrection soon I'm gonna end up in a casket

I'm going down to the river to wash my soul again
I've been runnin' with the Devil and I know that he's not my friend
I've been falling by the wayside livin' in this world of sin
I'm going down to the river, gonna wash my soul again

I'm going down to the river, gonna wash my soul again
I'm going down to the river, gonna wash my soul again

Met doug on a cruise between Sweden and Finland. We ended up talking because of a now mutual friend Eva Eastwood. They're gonna release a record together. Anyway, he was so nice to talk to, and it was 2 in the morning. We had a few laughs, i asked him if i could by him a beer, but he'd stopped drinking years earlier. He also told me that this song bought him a house, good for him.

It took 2 swedes to make him what he is today. They recorded that song with him in Johnny Cash studio and he has taken Sweden with storm. Sold out everytime he is here.

This recording is by far the best version he ever did.
It's like he knew his fortune depended on it.

Long Gone Lonesome Blues

I went down to the river to watch the fish swim by
But I got to the river so lonesome I wanted to die, oh Lord
And then I jumped in the river, but the doggone river was dry

She's long gone and now I'm lonesome blue

Well, I had me a woman who couldn't be true
She made me for my money and she made me blue
A man needs a woman that he can lean on
But my leaning post is done left and gone

She's long gone and now I'm lonesome blue

I'm gonna find me a river, one that's cold as ice
And when I find me that river, Lord, I'm gonna pay the price, oh Lord
I'm going down in it three times, but Lord I'm only coming up twice

She's long gone and now I'm lonesome blue

Oh well, she told me on Sunday, she was checkin' me out
Long about Monday she was nowhere about
And here it is Tuesday, I ain't had no news
I got them gone but not forgotten blues

She's long gone, and now I'm lonesome blue

That's a good one, man

I really enjoy the tempo of his original song here, it feels so much more genuine compared to the 'taken over' version no offence
