Funnel Cake is a classic fair favorite! Deep-fried to perfection and then dusted with powdered sugar, you won’t believe how easy it is to make this at home with just a handful of ingredients! You can enjoy this theme park classic year-round at home.

Summertime is not complete without enjoying a funnel cake, and now you can make your own at home. They are so addictive as freshly made ones are light and fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. You will have so much fun making these and watching the batter puff up into a swirled cake.

It’s all about the size of the hole at the bottom of the pastry bag! Small holes create small, shoestring sized pieces that don’t expand, but instead become dense & greasy, whereas a large hole of course creates bigger pieces that expand & get fluffy & pillowy! Nothing better than a fresh, hot & pillowy funnel cake with a light dusting of powdered sugar! (chef’s kiss) 💋

I just made these for my wife and they were amazing!!! Poured a little of my homemade strawberry jam, from our garden strawberries, over them, after a dusting of powered sugar. LOVE this recipe.

Just made this. Recipe is spot on and delicious. I made 2 plate size ones. I used the outside of a 9” spring form pan to maintain my circle. They came out so perfect. My granddaughter is going to love this when I make it for her very soon. Thank you for the recipe and demo.

I make these fairly frequently as its super fast when your about to have your evening tea or coffee and the urge for something fried hit you.. So a little tip, I just use a zip lock bag and snip a corner off.. The other is I use a small 8 inch saucepan I have with just about 4 inches of oil.. So this way you don't need too much oil and however you pipe it in you get uniform rounds which are the perfect size.

About the home made funnel cakes. I used to take my kids to county fairs in other states when they were 12-14 years old like you said a lot of fairs are no longer so yes now my kids are coming home from military and college break. ]we are ready for something sweet, comfort food that we love to create memories but in a short period of time. When my kids are by themselves they can prepare this. Thanks for the recipe. Your tutorials are very informative and motivational. Thank you for your warm hospitality that you bring to YouTube through your live instructionals from my family to yours God bless.

Just want to say thank you for this. As a non-American, I've spent decades thinking funnel cake was actually a slice of something like sponge cake. I always envisaged Americans wandering around state fairs munching happily on a slab of oddly-shaped cake that was baked in a funnel mold.

I've had an American internet friend for more than 20 years - and for more than 20 years he's been making (bad) jokes about his wife's addiction to funnel cake. And for more than 20 years I've been thinking (but not saying): "Oh give the woman a break. There's nothing wrong with a slice of cake and a cup of coffee. In fact, in many places around the world, it's considered the epitome of a civilised way of taking a break in the afternoon. Much as I love you, friend, it's not as if she doesn't deserve a break from you from time to time."

And then I watched this and discovered I've been an idiot for at least 20 years.

I hasten to add that it's not a bad thing discovering that I've been an idiot. Suddenly, the world - and my friend - make a lot more sense.

So, thank you again. It's a tremendously pleasant feeling to suddenly understand something.

(I'm still not going to laugh at my friend's jokes, though. His wife's clearly a martyr who's spent the last 30 years of her life doing charity work by not divorcing him and his jokes!")

I love this. We don't really have funnel cake in Australia so I love that you gave us an easy and precise recipe to try at home!

powdered sugar was always a favorite classic topping. I only remember having it with strawberries on top like you get at the faire. I was just telling my husband I miss cotton candy. This is inspiring me for my birthday coming up. I'm wondering what other classic faire foods I could replicate at home.

That is a desert we make in Trinidad called Jalabi. Our forefathers brought this delicious desert from India. Ours is dipped in simple syrup

i think the main difference between funnel cakes and jalebi is jalebi has yogurt and yeast in the batter and its left to ferment overnight, so it naturally becomes hollow when fried at the right temp (i have failed every time i tried at home). indian sugar syrups are measured by taar (thread) not temperature.. jalebi and boondi ladoo are both 1 taar.. the syrup has some lemon to keep it from crystallising, saffron and cardamom.. i think the persians call this zalabia

Thank you so much for the video, you are a life-saver. My youngest was very unhappy to not be able to get funnel cake while we were out Christmas shopping, but making it at home was even better. I am very happy with the results.

I just made these. Perfect amount, I got about 6-8 medium sized ones. Delish flavor, I did add a splash more of milk to thin out the batter, and a dash of cinnamon and a few drops of maple extract for extra flavor . Amazing texture and carnival style! I’ve tried many funnel cakes recipes in past and this one was the best and prettiest

Looove funnel cakes! Top with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, fresh berries or other fruit and whipped cream, maple syrup, honey and chopped nuts (prefer walnuts or pecans)...you just can't go wrong. I know what I'll be making this weekend. Great vid as usual, John!!

Ice cream on funnel cake is amazing. There's a food truck in Houston called The Funnel Bar that puts so many different toppings on funnel cakes including ice cream. Made me love funnel cakes even more.
