We actually get an early hint of something that is fully confirmed much later on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Ego the Living Planet reveals to Peter that he fathered many children across the universe and not just him, you can see in the top left corner that Ego kissing someone of Mantis’ species. This leads into the revelation in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special that Mantis is actually Peter Quill’s half sister.

I realized why Ego didn't told Peter about Mantis because he was too busy focussing on Peter that he ignored about Mantis.

Her powers make more sense now. It’s probably not because of her species, it’s because she is Egos daughter, that’s why he probably kept her as she was the only child that probably has a useful power for him.

It really makes you wonder if Peter has other family out there. If there's one there's always another. Peter could actually have like fifty uncles, a hundred aunts, a dozen brothers and sisters throughout the entire cosmos. All alive and thriving.
Ego said that he mated with so many women and fathered so many kids. Wouldn't shock me if he missed a few.
And he did say he didn't bother with those that didn't have his power. But those that did were incompatible and wound up becoming batteries.
That giant bone pile is probably only a fraction of how many siblings and relatives Peter actually has.

I always figured that she was Ego's daughter and there for in a way also Peters Sister. I was not even surprised tbh.😅

Considering Peter's lost his mom due to his father, then his dad while they were trying to kill said father and at that point he's mostly lost Gamora I'm pretty sure Peter was so very glad to discover a blood family member since he had close long time ties to only 1 member of his group at that point.

Yeah when i first watched gotg2, it was the impression that i got for some reason. It just clicked in that yeah Mantis must have been an offspring of Ego's. What i didn't know is that Baby groot was Gotg1 Groot's baby. I thought he was still the original Groot and it was just part of his life cycle to be a baby again after destroying parts of him. But yeah it makes sense that baby groot is his offspring just like how some plants propagate through replanting stem.

I was watching the holiday special with my brother and it was right before the part where mantis told quill and he said "i think she has a crush on him" 💀 this was 15 minutes after him saying that her and drax should end up together😭

I thought that was obvious in GotG 2.. i thought it was so weird Mantis was always the butt of the joke and her pain was always played for laughs even though she had basically been enslaved by her dad yet Peter never really seemed to care about her till holiday special
