We are sleepwalking to dystopia - UN rights chief Volker Turk to Human Rights Council | #HRC57

On 9 September 2024, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk updated the UN Human Rights Council on pressing human rights issues worldwide. In an expansive speech that examined broad trends concerning human rights today, Mr. Turk said that the world faced a choice: "We can either continue on our current path—a treacherous ‘new normal’—and sleepwalk into a dystopian future. Or we can wake up and turn things around for the better, for humanity and the planet."

Mr. Turk was speaking on the first day of the Human Rights Council's 57th session, which was scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, until 11 October 2024.

The only ones that don't think this is already a dystopia are de middle classes and the rich in Europe and North America. We all know what's happening in Palestine is the future the rich have in store for the rest of us. My life as well as many millions is already a complete dystopia. My only destiny in this reality is precarious miserable jobs throughout all my life, no house, no pension, bad education, no options or opportunities of anything but to grind for someone else. I had to migrate from Latin America to Australia hoping I was gonna have at least a chance of improvement and all I got has been racism, discrimination, underemployment, sub-employment, isolation and sheer alienation. The capitalist scam has no future but violence and the destruction of the planet.
