The white gas lanterns can sometimes get clogged fuel pickup tubes, generators that cause them to loose brightness or flicker in use. However the leading cause for these lanterns to seem dimmer vs propane is using the wrong grade pump gas. Gas lanterns want the lowest octane gas possible if your getting it from a pump, i think 87 is the lowest here.

you have to use the same mantles on both lanterns, compare: noise level, length of time both emit light without adding more fuel/propane (pumping in more air is not refueling)cost per hour to operate, and fiddling time.

That little lever on the side of the Coleman Fuel lantern is called a "pricker". It cleans the jet at the end of the generator, to allow even gas flow.

At -40 Degrees Fahrenheit or lower Propane remains a liquid, at suck a cold temperature you would have to use the liquid lantern because gas won't work.

the propane is way easy but if it is cold out the propane may be a bad choices (low pressure)

You'd get more light out of the white gas lantern if you lit it with less knob and didn't carbon the mantles all up right off. Its also hard to compare old mantles with new ones...

Instead of pumping your gas wheel, try pre-heating the generator with your lighter for 30 seconds then open the gas wheel. See how that works for you.

i have a propane one and it works just fine, i think the propane wins

i grew up with the old gas lanterns. that old hissing noise brings back memories. use peerless mantles on the gas ones . the new mantles suck they have a yellow glow not white

Both are double mantle. Does the other lantern take Coleman fuel or gasoline?
