Blockchain may bring to mind the speculative capitalism for which Silicon Valley is known and that has accompanied the launch of a range of new cryptocurrencies through initial coin offerings (ICOs). Beyond notions of disrupting fundraising and currency systems, blockchain presents an opportunity to affect the base-layer protocols for how we govern value exchange.
