We Need Your Help // Support Hastings Independent Today

The Hastings Independent Press (HIP) is a free fortnightly newspaper, run mainly on a voluntary basis by a group of local residents who know that Hastings is a unique place, with a character that deserves recognition. We aim to give a voice to the residents of Hastings and St Leonards to support a strong sense of community and to provide an impartial platform for debate about local issues. We encourage anyone who lives in Hastings and St Leonards to come and get involved.

The paper started back in January 2014, when a group of locals took matters into their own hands after becoming frustrated at the quality of local news coverage. We feel it’s important that a local paper should be community controlled, and written by people who live in and love Hastings. We also believe a local paper should serve its readers rather than its shareholders. That’s why the Hastings Independent is set up as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, with all profits being invested back in to the company to help achieve its social aims.
