Scientists made a haunting discovery inside the Harvard University library. Today, we take a look at what scientists found inside their library #shorts

Sometimes, the material the book is made out of, often leather and hide in older times, is more valuable than the content itself. But a long time ago, the art of book binding was a little more macabre.

‘Des Destinées de l'âme’ (Destinies of the Soul) has been housed at the Houghton library at Harvard University, since the early nineteen hundreds. Written by a man named Arsene Houssaye in 1880, the book was apparently gifted to a friend of Arsene’s, a doctor named Ludovic Bouland.

When some young woman passes away in some man's company and end's up covering a book, you gotta ask a few questions. The story of this is what i want to hear.

A while back, a Harvard student inventoried the library at Harvard and found a number of books bound with human skin.

I see 2 faces, I thought that was gonna be the discovery until he said it is made from human skin 😬 from a woman that died while in his care. Can’t help but wonder what else he did with her body😳

Kind of common in old times really as well as human skin outer wraps, why does this one stand out?
Also alot of knives, brushes, and other items with human bone handles, human tendon was used for a number of purposes as well.
Between the Renaissance and 1940ish human bodies were used for many purposes and a few of them are coming back like the preservation and mounting of skin to preserve the tattoos.
Imagine 300 years from now when someone finds out the odd framed picture passed down in the family is actually made of human skin.

Obviously a very wholesome fellow who is so respectful of the dead he uses their skin to cover a book.

Harvard believes its readers should put some skin in the game, while Sanger was in a hurry to see early contributions.
