Here's how I would describe the characters:

Mario: Good basic all rounder character. Does everything slightly better than average, doesn't really excel at anything, and the consistency makes him a reliable powerhouse. One of the few cons of Mario is pretty bad movement, kinda makes up for it with Stomp Jump.

Rabbid Luigi: Niche pick. Highest crit rate. Mostly used as a debuffer. Really good dash. Sometimes works as a pseudo healer as you can chain Vampire status to enemies. Requires a lot of set up to be effective.

Rabbid Peach: Tank and healer in one. Really good single target heal (up to 70%), she can be used as a bullet sponge literally with her barrier skill.

Luigi: The glass canon sniper of the game. Ridiculous range, high damage, but his defense is made out of paper and will get one shotted by most bosses. Basically a high risk high reward character. You have to have someone to keep him alive and utilize his range with correct positioning to make the best out of Luigi.

Peach: The tank/protector type with AoE everything. She is good if your team group together as she can AoE heal everyturn. She can link herself with another character and takes a portion of the dmg dealt to that character, preventing low HP characters from getting one-shotted when exposed.

Rabbid Mario: The AoE specialist. Crazy high AoE dmg, but you have to be careful to avoid friendly fire. His "in-your-face" play style exposes him to enemies, which is really risky.

Rabbid Yoshi: An oddball character. He's another niche tech character that doesn't really fit into any kind of team. His weapon has a really big range of min-max dmg so he's not really reliable with dmg output. His 2-hit dmg immunity shield is the best barrier in the game if used correctly, but it's pretty hard to. Put him in a team if you like unconventional characters or if you enjoy gambling.

Yoshi: An upgraded version of Mario. Does everything the same, but better. Needless to say, if Mario was a powerhouse, this guy is a fucking monster.

I really like Luigi and Rabbid Luigi as a team. I think they synergize fairly well, with RL able to provide a lot of utility by clearing obstacles to give Luigi a line of sight as well as heal with vamp effects, weaken/disable enemies, and, when necessary, take the bullet for teammates with his shields active. And Luigi can extend the range of RL's movement with Itchy feet which helps him reach far away enemies to vamp dash and retreat back to cover. Luigi also can dish out the high burst damage needed to protect RL (and mario) who are on the front lines, and distract enemies with the turret as well as provide ranged splash damage with it. Luigi and Mario can both use the overwatch thing to protect the team as a whole.
The downside to this team is that the luigis are low health, so you really have to prioritize team movement and buffs. You can't keep them seperated for too long or else they will be out of range for each other's buffs and will get picked off.

The one bad thing I have to say about this game is the only mandatory character is Mario, meaning you only get to pick two other team mates
