No campaign will ever beat Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’ for rugby league: Benny Elias

Wests Tigers legend Benny Elias claims there will never be a campaign as good as Tina Turner’s commercial for the NSWRL in 1989.

“This was the changing of guard; this was the professional game of rugby league all of a sudden,” he told Sky News Australia.

“Overnight, it became super, super professional.”

I very vividly remember this striking Ruby League promo campaign in 91’ as a Primary School student at Ela Beach; without being able to even seeing the ad itself again, the images I avidly recall seeing are Mal and the Queen herself on the ad, watching from PNG and of course supporting my Maroons too.

How true, Tina put the NRL on the map, women who once were never interested began to watch. I have never understood why they didn’t continue to invite her to do it again and again. Tina was the very best.
